Jamie Smith, an Edelman alum and former deputy White House press secretary for President Barack Obama, had been named chief communications officer for Bitcoin technology provider BitFury Group.

Smith has served as executive VP at Edelman in Washington since departing the White House. She was previousl director of public affairs for the Director of National Intelligence and workEd on the Hill as comms. director for the Senate Commerce Committee.

She also was comms. director for Madeleine Albright's firm, The Albright Group.

San Francisco-based BitFury, a 2014 startup with about $20m, provides a public ledger of Bitcoin transactions known as a blockchain.
