GUIMiner speed dropping WAY down...

I'm not using any kind of special mining rig, just a regular mid-grade gaming computer.
Anyway, when I first start it up, it's running about 145Mhash/s, which is fine. Within about 10 minutes, for seemingly no reason, it drops to about 400 khash/s, which is pretty much useless. It stays that way til I stop and start it again, then it goes back up to 145Mhash/s or so....for about 10 mins. So, basically, I can't leave it alone for more than 10 minutes.

What the heck is the problem?

What's the GPU you are using? Maybe you can check https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison to see if there are recommended parameters for your GPU.

There are various kinds of AMD 68xx. Try downloading HWiNFO64 or HWiNFO32 then check your exact GPU model by going on the Video Adapter section. You may also try adding the parameters -v -w 128 -f 0

Ah, okay, looked it up, mine is listed but no parameters listed.
I figure that's not the issue anyway - I mean, it works for a little while. It's like it's something up with GUIMiner. It drops super low and stays there, like it's frozen, but the program isn't. Instead of the speed being in flux, it might change from 407 khash/s to 408 khash/s every 2 minutes or so, other than that, it stays still. But the program itself isn't frozen, I can still click it and stop/restart it and everything.

Try to check if your GPU Load if it is being utilized to a high percentage (> 90%) using HWiNFO or GPU-Z while running GUIMiner then observe if it significantly reduces when your hash rate turns from MH to KH. If that is the case, the issue may be on your GPU or its drivers.

EDIT:
When you're running the GUIMiner, are there any active applications that could request considerable GPU resource (like watching videos or YouTube streaming)? Some applications could potentially downclock your GPU. Or it might be also a case of high GPU temperature after some time, causing the GPU to throttle down its clocks.

The speed goes way down regardless of if I'm browsing the web or just leaving it with nothing else running.
I checked, and REGARDLESS of whether it's doing MH or KH, all 4 cores are at like 90%, when I completely stop it, they all go back down to green. But the load doesn't change when the speed does. The computer fans and such still make the same amount of noise as well. It's like it's still working hard even when it's barely doing anything until I click "stop".

EDIT: Actually, when running at MH, it shows the cores being in the green! It's when the speed drops super low that the core load goes into the yellow.

Are you running GUIMiner having boxes on the CPU Affinity checked? Could you try only checking 0 and uncheck all the other boxes?

download cgminer, and use that.

In my past experience cgminer is better.

1) Download cgminer: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=28402.0

2) Make a bat file,
gpu-engine isn't necessary, though you can overclock using that,
and under clock memory to reduce the graphic card heat.
Copy paste into file, rename as file.bat,
if extensions don't show enable that in folder options,
then rename as .bat.

Paste into main folder of cgminer, then double click, and your done!
I left the coinotron, as an example, replace that with your pool name,
and replace the port according to the site.

Okay... I've tried, tried, and tried this.
Did 100% as you said. Only think I changed was obviously the url (to http://pit.deepbit.net - same port) and the password/username.
The .bat opens for like 1 second, flashes an error for like 1/10th of a second (looks to be something like "command line options set a device that dosen't exist")
Don't know what to do.

If you want to read error messages if there are any, instead of double clicking the .bat file, run the commands on the terminal/cmd and make sure you're on the right directory.

I used the jar file called cgEasy to set up the bat file, and it works now...sort of.
The problem is, it's super slow. 160 Kh/s
If I turn up the intensity (it's at 13) to, say, 18, my computer is 100% unusable. If I move the mouse, it takes 10 seconds before it actually moves. With GUIminer, it was going 140 MH/s and I could still do basic web browsing, etc. What's the deal?

Also, something else is going on. Deepbit has my worker name in red, indicating it hasn't received any shares in over 30 mins. cgminer has been running for an hour. Still, nothing.

try putting this in your guiminer flags
-v -w 128 -f 60


if that doesnt work then its some wierd power management setting possibly. Without knowing which videocard you have there is no way to know for sure

Had the same problem running a 6870. After 10 mins, slow down to 400kH. Registered just to post this solution.

Reverted back to version v2012-02-19 and has been running over 30 minutes with no slow down.

This is affecting me as well...
Any other ideas besides "Don't use GUIMiner"?

I start at about 120MH/s per card (2 cards)
Then drop to almost nothing after 10 minutes, like clockwork.
I can start one worker 20 seconds after the first and it will drop speed 20 seconds after the first one begins to drop.

Once I stop/start the workers again they are back at 120MH/s...

Ill donate half of what i made while Guiminer kept pausing, .00002800. Prob not crap though
