Boxing icon Muhammad Ali has come out fighting against Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump and his controversial call for a ban on the entry of all Muslims into the US.

Trump's comments have been widely condemned in the states from across the political spectrum with President Barrack Obama calling for unity in the wake of the 2 December San Bernardino shootings which left 21 dead and were inspired by Islamic State terrorism.

Ali, who became an outspoken advocate of the civil rights movement in the 1960s and 1970s and converted to Islam in 1975, also used his statement to speak out against the Islamic State (Isis/Daesh) and to say Islam had nothing to do with the attacks in Paris on 13 November.

In the statement broadcast on US television, Ali, 73, said: "Speaking as someone who has never been accused of political correctness, I believe that our political leaders should use their position to bring understanding about the religion of Islam and clarify that these misguided murderers have perverted people's views on what Islam really is.

"I am a Muslim, and there is nothing Islamic about killing innocent people in Paris, San Bernardino, or anywhere else in the world.
"True Muslims know that the ruthless violence of so-called Islamic jihadists goes against the very tenets of our religion," he added.

Damn right he should. And every ethnic minority should probably do the same.

That's an absurd call by the presidential candidate. What happened to being democratic and secular in the modern age?
I'm not surprised by Alis response, it's shameful for someone as high ranking as Donald Trump to be running around and making controversial statements as such.

We should remember that some of the attackers who butchered 130+ innocent civilians in Paris were recent immigrants to France from the Middle East. So Donald Trump is justified to a limit in calling for a complete ban of the Muslim immigrants. Right now, the Western intelligence agencies are unable to filter out the Islamist extremists from the potential pool of immigrants. So the only option to prevent future terrorist attacks is to prevent Muslim immigrants from traveling to Western nations.

Ridiculous claim. The group is founded by a muslim. None the groups members are jewish, catholics.. all praying to allah.
Many muslims hopefully do not agree with this form of living Islam, but saying it has nothing to do with Islam is b.s.

This is what is fueling the growth of ISIS. The mainstream Muslim organizations and individuals refuse to confront the ISIS, saying that they have nothing to do with that organization. Still, 100% of the ISIS recruits are Muslims, and they use Qura'an, the hadiths and the other Islamic texts to justify their atrocities and perversions.

Wait, so Ali gets into the news by insulting Trump, and claiming that Muslims were not behind all the terrorist violence?

Wow....

How come everyone who says Donald Trump said to ban Muslims leaves the word "temporary" out? He said a "temporary ban". We cannot even vet US citizens correctly. How will we get people from Syria vetted? We can't. It's TEMPORARY. Words have meanings, even the ones you leave out.

It's like when Trump said some illegals kill, some illegals rape and some are good people. All you ever saw after that was rape and kill. That's why it's not working. People see right through it.

We need a TEMPORARY ban until we can set up a proper system to vet these people. Saying this is racist or hate means you are intellectually bankrupt.

It is the mainstream media which is creating all this trouble by distorting what he said. Most of these media people are ultra-leftwing nuts and they want to flood all the Western nations with unwashed hordes from countries such as Pakistan and Uganda. Anyone who is opposing this madness is immediately vilified and demonized.

They do this because they are liars.

And they do what liars do.  They lie.

Not only the amount of lying, but the low quality of it, is becoming very disturbing.

These prominent Muslims only speaks out against those who only want to protect Americans. They should be the first to speak out against these terrorists and they themselves should do something against the terrorists.

Had they done that, then tens of thousands of Western recruits would not have traveled to Syria and Iraq, in order to join the Islamic State and take part in crimes against humanity. Some 2,000 ISIS fighters are from France alone. Do you think that this massive outflow was possible without the knowledge of the local Islamic clerics?
