Well, ain't that ironic! About ten days ago I, too, cut the same finger on my hand, albeit it was the left one but not the middle finger. It's the finger between the middle finger and the thumb and doesn't have a name like the other fingers do, which is also ironic.

I lost a good chunk of my right thumb almost... 8 years ago. 10? I don't remember. I knicked it on a tablesaw while splitting a narrow piece of wood flooring. I'm lucky I only lost my thumbprint and not my whole thumb! The skin grew back, but the nerves didn't. All I have is one little cluster in the middle that's uber sensitive. Kinda annoying, but doesn't bother me now!

Yikes. My woodshop teacher (yes, it's one of those stories) managed to cut two of his fingers completely off on a table saw.

My Grandfather works in carpentry/construction, specializing in kitchens. I got 2 uncles that did wood flooring, and a 3rd that did tile. My high school summers were spent working with them. They all know enough people, that I've heard some pretty bad horror stories. 0_0

buddy of mine does flooring.. I see him on a regular basis and his hands are always beat to total shit.. Why not wear some damn gloves?

Not a good idea to wear gloves when operating machinery like table saws. Gloves can get caught and pull your entire hand/arm in as opposed to getting nicked or "only" losing a finger.

Not a good idea to wear gloves when operating machinery like table saws. Gloves can get caught and pull your entire hand/arm in as opposed to getting nicked or "only" losing a finger.

Like mechanic style work gloves? I understand something like this happening with some shitty loose work gloves. He is more of a carpet guy "installer" I know they do hardwood at times.

Actually when I thought of this thread, my grandfather lost the outer part of is thumb in an accident once. He was using a heavy rotating stone to sharpen knifes, and his finger somehow got stuck into the rotating machinery, and his outer part of the thumb was ripped off.

Anyway, I know of an even more scary accident. I used to work with a guy with only one arm, he lost it in a place where they work with trees. Somehow his hand was stuck with some piece of wood that was going into some machinery, and there went his arm...

I know of one other guy too that was in a motorcycle accident and lost one of his arms.

So, after all - the topic starter wasn't that unlucky..
