Now lets get into mainstream territory and see how alts are actually doing when it comes to that. So what better place than checking the app stores to get an idea, because thats where the public is active. I ranked them by amount of installs and iOS availability.

1. Dogecoin (DOGE)
Android: Yes | Launched: Q4 2013 | Updated: Dec 9, 2015 | Installs: 100.000-500.000 | Rating: 4.2 | Amount of rates: 3.118 times | iOS: Yes | Launched: Q1 2015 | Updated: Oct 23, 2015 | http://dogecoin.com/

2. GetGems (GEMZ)
Android: Yes | Launched: Q1 2015 | Updated: Dec 9, 2015 | Installs: 10.000-50.000 | Rating: 4.6 | Amount of rates: 1.147 times | iOS: Yes | Launched: Q1 2015 | Updated: Nov 7, 2015 | http://getgems.org/

3. Litecoin (LTC)
Android: Yes | Launched: Q4 2013 | Updated: Dec 23, 2014 | Installs: 10.000-50.000 | Rating: 4.1 | Amount of rates: 964 times | iOS: No | https://litecoin.com/

4. Dash (DASH)
Android: Yes | Launched: Q2 2014 | Updated: Dec 12, 2015 | Installs: 5.000-10.000 | Rating: 4.3 | Amount of rates: 122 times | iOS: No | https://www.dash.org/

5. Counterparty (XCP)
Android: Yes | Launched: Q2 2013 | Updated: Dec 7, 2015 | Installs: 500-1.000 | Rating: 4.2 | Amount of rates: 19 times | iOS: Yes | Launched: Q2 2015 | Updated: Dec 9, 2015 | http://counterparty.io/

6. Peercoin (PPC)
Android: Yes | Launched: Q3 2014 | Updated: Oct 11, 2015 | Installs: 1.000-5.000 | Rating: 4.2 | Amount of rates: 44 times | iOS: No | https://www.peercoin.net/

7. Namecoin (NMC)
Android: Yes | Launched: 2012/2013 | Updated: Jan 8, 2015 | Installs: 500-1.000 | Rating: 3.5 | Amount of rates: 24 times | iOS: No | https://namecoin.info/

8. Monero (XMR)
Android: Yes | Launched: Q2 2015 | Updated: Jul 5, 2015 | Installs: 100-500 | Rating: 4.0 | Amount of rates: 8 times | iOS: No | https://getmonero.org/home

9. Gulden (NLG)
Android: Yes | Launched: Q3 2015 | Updated: Nov 4, 2015 | Installs: 50-100 | Rating: 5.0 | Amount of rates: 5 times | iOS: No | https://gulden.com/nl/

10. NXT (NXT)
Android: Yes | Launched: Q2 2015 | Updated: Dec 8, 2015 | Installs: 50-100 | Rating: not rated yet | iOS: No | http://nxt.org/

So these are pretty much the top 10.

And the results are pretty sad, seems only Dogecoin and GetGems are doing well and are clearly more aimed towards mainstream participation. The latter has been out this year and already beating Litecoin in adoption. Litecoins Android wallet hasnt been updated for a year and no sign of an iOS version.

Which clearly shows Litecoin is much more oriented towards the tech savy and traders, same goes for Dash, Peercoin, Namecoin, Monero, NXT, their apps score pretty bad regarding installs.

So from the 678 cryptos on coinmarketcap only 0.3 % are doing decent in reaching mainstream. I think its because its much harder to reach mainstream then reaching tech savy/traders and many cryptos just put out the announcement and get it listed on the exchange, thats it, but there is no actual business model, funds, ambition, interesting features to reach mainstream.

DigiCube has a terrific, fully functional Android wallet. Complete with coin control, input viewer, debug window, and staking

The StakeStick is also run on Android and brings the internet, streaming video, full wallets, and staking to your HDTV: http://www.freestaking.com/stakestick

iOS all the way, cus apps are fully vetted before being made available which has prevented widespread malware infection to ios users. The app store provides users with confidence that the apps they download have been tested and validated by Apple. That's why majority of cryptos are ignoring ios while its one of the biggest operating systems with many users to grab.

Why is it not on the market yet? Can't pass Apples extreme rules?

I think so, quote from the Install Guide :

"As iTunes did not accept the Dash Wallet on their Store (whatever reasons) ..."

Can't put yes cus its not in the app store and unavailable for the public, im linking the app to the app store which is trustable to download for users. You should check with them whats the issue is.

Building a platform for crypto-nerds is going to get us nowhere. Building a platform that will attract a wider audience is what will privail at the end.
