I think the volatility is one of the major problem of bitcoin to became mainstream, to pay isn't so bad but to receive you have to sell it quicly to not risk
No more no less than Fiat money and with less manipulation ( yes... ), just compare how many people use fiat and how many use our lovely bitcoin, imagine that we have something like a 10% of world people using bitcoin, we will continue talking about volatility like now? If 1% of the world population use bitcoin, the price will be $500,000 or over. The volatility will be much smaller.

The general rule goes like this buy low sell high and I don't think anyone bought during the $1200 rise.

That price could be generated by a robot in the Mt Gox exchange. Somebody said that Willy the robot operated in Mt Gox.

Where would you get that nobody brought in around the $1k price? Not all the volume was fake and many would have brought in for 1k and more. Not sure why anyone would be proud of themselves for buying in at the price.

Nah, I didn't bought when the price was that too high, in fact at that price I was not even aware about bitcoins, I bought when the price was near $220 So at a moment I am enjoying profits, but will wait till price reaches $500.

Not sure why anyone would be proud of themselves for buying in at the price. I'm sure I bought some @ about $1100 using Bitfinex, Btc-e and Bitstamp if I'm not mistaken. I've also bought some at like $2 )))) it's good that I bought lots more for $2 than for $1100))

Answering the topic question - definitely yes The volumes sold on that time are telling everything for themselves.

Well, I just thought about one more detail: traders could make a good deal of that volume. Anyway, some of them lost a creepy amount of cash on those deals.

Did you mean you want to buy at $1200 and keep it or sell it at lower price? The $1200 price was at Mt Gox, it could fake.

I didn't, sounds crazy that some people bought bitcoin for such a high price. I don't blame them though, nobody knows where bitcoin is going Bitcoin is very unpredictable.
At the rate it was growing it didn't seem "such a price" at all, people were just thinking it would continue to rise indefinitely...
