...

I first started learning about and buying BTC when it was in the $700s, heading lower.  I am lucky I did not buy at the spike.

But, I have been "BTFD" for a while now, via localbitcoins, "mail order", Trucoin and other ways.  I have bought enough so that I am probably very close to breaking even or possibly in the green!  I would have to do the onerous work and check my figures, but $450 - $500 is probably about my break-even.

I have spent some (on gold), so that will likely complicate my calculations.  Perhaps I could value my BTC on a "FIFO" basis Huh  Accountants' comments are welcome.

*   *   *

How about some of you?

Did some of you BTFD on the way down (or at least at lower prices than when you started or lower than now)?

I purchased only few of my BTC at around $450, the rest I made by investing those inital ones. So yes, anything above $450 puts me in green. Also, we all know it s not gonna stop here and this time it s not pump and dump, there s no going back. Once we hit $500, which is psychological border, world press s gonna go berserk.

I purchased my first bitcoins between 450-500 and up to 600-700 usd in the first big run up. When it got even higher I stopped buying and on the way down I bought some fractions again to do some investments.

But the long time below 300 did quite good for my holdings. I did not calculate it, but I'm probably about even now, maybe even slightly ahead due to some altcoin mining like doge in the early days.

Bought most of mine in the first half of 2013, in the range $60 - $200.
I bought a few more later up to $700 or so, and some at $500 in 2014 (i think).
So average cost is like $350.
I'm happy to be above water now Smiley

Some of my friends were early believers of Bitcoin and they bought when it was around $50. A while after they bought, they persuaded me to buy as well, I managed to buy at $100, so I could sell now and make some profit, but I am going to wait for the price to go higher.

I could still make profits if I would sell now but I would rather hold for now. I want bitcoin to reach a new ATH and reach a new peak.
I might sell some of the bitcoins I own and hold onto some as well and buy again when the price drops a bit.

I had my bitcoins when the price was 300 dollars I can sell it now if I wanted, but I thin in 25 december bitcoin will increase even more so I am just going to wait until that happen. Otherwise I will just wait in 2016 I believe bitcoin will rise.

For me i would like to sell my bitcoins and gain a profit but i think this is not a time to sell.
The update price is 454.1 and i will wait to reach $500 before to sell all my bitcoins to gain a lots of profits..
Since the price is gradually increasing i will stay holding all my bitcoins and keep watching the flunctuate of bitcoin price..

This calculation s irrelevant as long as u dont sell. Dont think anyone holding BTC s bearish now, we all expect it to jump up to the sky.

If I would sell/trade right now I would still be able to make profits. That's not my plan though, I want bitcoin to reach a new ATH and then I'll sell. Anything below $1000 is a reason to buy and reasons to hold. Bitcoin hasn't reached it peak yet. On the other hand I could understand why people would sell, some are in need of fiat and need to pay bills and stuff like that.

I'm no expert but if I agree with you that once we hit $500, bitcoin will continue going up (after, maybe, a small correction), but I don't see it reach much higher prices than $600 for now. I can totally imagine 400~600 becoming the new standard price, though.
Question is: I am right or not  Cheesy? It's only my guts telling me it's going to be that way.

Reply to the title question...

You also have to consider many are still behind at $600 or $700 due to mtgox.  I think we need to see $800 before the majourity of people can safely say they are even.

Sorry. I bought at several points in time and even bought a bit today because I'm a bull (last time I was bullish was during the last peak, and I bought twice, the second being when we were right at the top Cheesy). Anyway, I made my calculations and my average buying price is roughly $400 so yes, I'm in the green too.

I'm ahead but I'm not selling. If I were to sell now I would be able to make 100% profits but I'm holding off of that. I don't see the need of selling right now when I don't need fiat.
I might wait until bitcoin reaches $1000, sell some and buy some more when the value dips down a bit.

I have learned about Bitcoin when we broke $1,100! Smiley It was waaaay to expensive for me so I didn't buy in! I got myself only a small amount in order to get started in the crypto world. Instead I started trading effectively and earning bitcoins in different ways. I must admit that I did very good!

I have a nice stash at the moment and I must admit that my average buy in price is about 47 euros per bitcoin!

Not 470? Cause 47 is not only cheap, it's incredibly cheap!!! That would mean you got 10 times the amount you paid, you no longer call that profit, it's called raining coins  Grin

Funny reading these thread's where everybody seems to be 'up'. Where are all the murdered sheep?

I think all those people have just quit Bitcoin altogether which will mean good news for us, if you remember when Bitcoin crashed because of MT.GOX there were swarms of angry posters calling Bitcoin a scam etc. but now it's just us lot left really who were intelligent enough to buy at the lows.

I'm sure though there will be some idiots who if we get Bitcoin past $500 will immediately panic buy into it and then start bitching about Bitcoin when they lose money though, it's pretty much guaranteed.

I am one of the lucky ones... I bought my way up into a situation where my current bitcoins are paid for with my profits. You have to take some risks in life to reap the rewards. I started

out in Bitcoin, when most friends and family laughed at the concept. I saw the potential and went for it and it paid off. I lost a few bitcoins on the way, but my profits are making up

for those too..  Grin

I go by the rule "Never sell for lower price than you paid for it" , so i'm good either way you turn it around. You're right about people getting
in green with their bitcoin investments, and that will only get better with time, unless for those who sold at a loss..

I've made a couple hundred bucks off investing in bitcoin. The only time I've gone into the red was the $500 to $380 drop. But bitcoin regained after that, so I'm fine. I'm not much of a long term trader, but I so day trading, and that's quite profitable.

I've seen a couple people Gamble high on primedice and lost though, so either their rich bastards or have already made alot.

Im definitely above even for a while now. I started buying every month when it was on the 2xx. I thought "this is way too strange, there's no way the price is being so stable at this low price, I know the time to stack up is now or never". So I have been buying monthly, and continue to do so, and there's no way im going to sell them.

Selling now is for security, waiting is risky, but can be profitable.

I'd say the best is to halve everything. Sell half your btc now and wait a bit for the other half, this way you're sure you made some profit but you can also expect more from future rise.

Just my point of view though =)

Well, most of them probably got disenchanted and left here a long time ago.

I got into bitcoin just after the peak, doing altcoin mining and selling them for BTC all through 2014 along with trading some alts along the way. It would be an accountants' nightmare to try to tally up the mining rig and electricity costs (etc.) vs. the mining revenue but I think I roughly broke even, thanks to a windfall investment in Dark/Dash at a good time. Actually better than even, since I was able to sell a couple GPU's at the end and was left with a very powerful system to enjoy for personal use.  Then in 2015 I started buying BTC with savings in the $217-264 range, so I'm very happy with how things are running now. Just had to have faith during the tough sledding period of 2014.

I am one of the lucky ones who bought in when we were around $220, so I am in the green now.  My issue is that I could not buy enough at this time in order to keep a profit.  I was only able to buy what I needed and now I have very little.  I am still in the green, but I wish I could have bought more at that time.

I'm in a long term hold position.
That good in Bitcoin If we save for a long term in bitcoin savings That would be helpful for sure in future and some of the people doing bitcoin as short term like as it is changing to fiat cash but If they save that good for them only.I use to buy bitcoin in the time 250$ to 300$ now just savings Not going with buying.

i believe that buying even now will look like an absolute bargain in 10 years, so yes i bought some at higher prices but even then its gone be profit eventually.  i dont buy for a quick turn around.

The higher the entry point to make 1 BTC gets for the average citizen the more elite you are in the Bitcoin ecosystem and that's how it should be, people that take risks and are visionaries should be given rewards, that's I find it funny when some people complain the super early adopters all rich already.

As for me, I am ahead. I learnt about Bitcoin about a year ago or so. Was around 311 at that time, so now it is almost the higher Bitcoin I have seen (apart from the last raise some weeks ago). That is pretty good!

I guess it also will get higher this year, so the subject is true for me.

Bought 1200$ at 325, sold everything today for 1750$.

Yup I'm ahead no doubt about that, I'd say it's  the time to sell, bitcoin will drop. There is absolutely no reason it stays at 500$ for me, it will drop unless more companies allow paying in btc.

The faith of people in btc can't stay until things change and scams are reduced!

I actually bought mine around the $200 mark, so right now I already doubled my investment. I'm just sorry that I haven't bought more than I did, unfortunately I   haven't had any more money to invest...

Funny reading these thread's where everybody seems to be 'up'. Where are all the murdered sheep?

The sheeps are in fiat. They enjoy their Christsmas credit card promos, their Christsmas usury bank loan with 900% interest rate, or their Bond investments that will vanish pretty soon in the next crisis.

Bitcoin is for the enlightened sheep Cheesy

And of course for some wolfs.

...
I would have to do the onerous work and check my figures, but $450 - $500 is probably about my break-even.

I have spent some (on gold), so that will likely complicate my calculations.  Perhaps I could value my BTC on a "FIFO" basis Huh  Accountants' comments are welcome.

FIFO relates to inventory valuation, not really useful for you (as the value is set at cost not actual market value).

Just treat gold purchase same as selling bitcoin. So add together all the $ spent on BTC (including fees etc), take away $ value of gold bought (at that time), then divide the result by the amount of BTC you're currently holding, now you'll see the average cost and you'll know whether you're in break-even position.

The above does not provide for any additional BTC you've earned or for any BTC spending (other than buying gold).

I have now around $100 profit per coin on average. I will hold longer for sure as I do think the rise is far from over. I could have had more profit if I bought more around $250, but I am very happy.

Holy Christ!
Man you must have had some incredible lucky punches in trading or with your alternative ways!
47 euros is amazingly cheap. So you already made some nice profits so far.
I'm admiring you a bit for that.

I go by the rule "Never sell for lower price than you paid for it" , so i'm good either way you turn it around. You're right about people getting
in green with their bitcoin investments, and that will only get better with time, unless for those who sold at a loss..

cheers

I go by the same rule. I would never buy bitcoin if I didn't think that I would make profits out of them.
That's the best way to go with bitcoin. Nobody knew how big bitcoin could be though so I could understand why people went for it.

I bought at around $250. Holding on to 1 coin hoping it hits 1,000!

This is your lucky day, maybe next year will hit 1000 dollars.
I think is also good to buy some little amounts of bitcoin now so that later in the future lets say 5 years than bitcoin will rise.

I didn't buy at the spike, but, for a long time I used faucets and worked here on this forum until I could start doing sig

campaigns. Also I learned how to trade altcoins.

Later, I had a miner; a U3 that was hanging around that I bought before and forgot about for a while. I soon fired it up

to get altcoin to begin trading. It convinced me enough to get a bigger miner, the Antminer S3 to mine more on the

altcoins to trade for BTC.

Now I mine and trade altcoins to BTC and dp signature campaigns. Sometimes I do the odd faucet for a little bit to do,

but not much.
