Can someone get my IP address from my bitcoin address? I ask as this would technically remove the anonynimity of Bitcoin and its decentralisation as it can easily be tracked back to the sender. Is it, therefore, possible and easy to trackan IP address from a bitcoin address using simple php/python or javascript?

No.

Because a transaction has no IP address attached to it.
Because if you broadcast a transaction that is spending coins "from"[1] an address you do so to several peers and the TX is no different from those that you relay.
Because your client connects to servers that are under control by a single entity, but the requests are such that they can not link the IP to an address.

Yes.

Because you use a service (e.g. blockchain.info) to handle your coins and dont mask your IP, e.g. via Tor.
Because all the node you are connected to are under control by the same entity. Known as sybil attack.
Because your client connects to servers that are under control by a single entity.

[1] there is no such thing as a from address, its just easier to use the word here. Technically its just another transaction that is referenced.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

I wonder whether the server node that sent the broadcast of your transaction gets your IP address?

Will the server that you are connected to (i.e: Electrum node) gets your IP address and correlate to the broadcast of a transaction that contains your wallet address ?

then i think as per your view if we transact through hardware wallet then their are more chances of getting IP address, but if you are using web wallet then i think their is no chance of getting IP address of the sender, as it goes through multi address.

The bitcoin address which you use is not in any way computed from your IP address, and there is no way to compute your IP address from your bitcoin wallet address.

I expect that to get your IP address noted by the nsa, you'd have to do something as bad as posting some bad words like "Donald Trump eats hamsters for breakfast", or access a particular bitcoin address which is recognized from a ransom note.

As far as disclosing your bitcoin address, I'd rate a bitcoin address as comparable to a Swiss bank account number, without the Swiss.  If you really want to hide your dealings then Dogecoin is much better suited to what you do.

As Shorena has pointed out, the answer really depends on the specifics of the situation.  The phrase "the devil's in the details" is a good representation of this question.

It is possible to send transactions in a way that makes it impossible to track it back to any IP.

It is also possible to make it very easy for someone to identify the IP where a transaction originated.

The exact process that you use to send the transaction will determine how easy or difficult it would be to connect your address and your IP.

It also depends on who you are trying to hide from.

Government? Family and friends? Employer? Internet service provider? A private investigator? Malware that is installed on your computer? Spyware that is installed on your computer?

Each of these groups has access to different resources and capabilities that may make it easier or more difficult for them to identify the IP depending on the process you use.

No, bitcoin addresses are not connected to IP addresses directly. But if you write your bitcoin address on a website, this connection can be made.

Bitcoin network use 5900 nodes, more than TOR to hide literaly the sender of a transaction.
Transaction don't store any IP or localisation.

https://getaddr.bitnodes.io/ is a regular client to ask the IP locally at the client connexion port.
but, transaction, they can "catch" one if she is emit from a other point.

Your Electrum wallet connects to a mode which stores your IP address in a log file. There are many Electrum nodes, and what happens to the log files is at the discretion of each person running a node you connect to. I think the operator of a node can correlate your IP address to your wallet address.

The blockchain itself does not store any IP values but services like blockchain.info store and report the IP of the node that a transaction is relayed by. In this case that would be the server IP not yours. be able to fake being the server.
And the server stores my IP?

The Electrum server stores an IP address from a client in it's log. Those logs can be rotated but this all up to server operator.

Any suggestions for wallets that do not track IP,looks like I use two that do and would rather not be so blatant. Even though I am like a monkey bashing the keyboard on the internets.

I don't think that they can track your IP address otherwise the illgal things the people buy the goverment should have already arrested them. If you are afraid that they can track use TOR or other tools than they can follow your ip.

no

when you send a TX you send it to another person.. lets call it alice. and alice sends it to Bob, and bob sends it to Jim

when alice received it she is obviously connected directly to you so she sees
alice see's relayed by Jackg
bob see's relayed by Alice
Jim see's relayed by bob.

but bob and jim do not know jackg.
so relax about that.

what i would be more concerned with is that any authority can ask this forum for your IP address linked to your account here.. and because you published 1GybvzB8d1cZAtySZCjMBr4RrwsYVQg8dY on your profile. they now know an IP address and any movements of 1GybvzB8d1cZAtySZCjMBr4RrwsYVQg8dY can be logged as coming from you.

not bitcoins fault, but your fault for publicizing a address on a forum that most probably stores IP addresses too.

bitcoin is anonymous, right up until you publish an address on a public website, hense pseudonymous (due to human error)

I wouldnt say that it easy for tracking/deanonymizing you for a regular Joe-bitcoin user. But feds, governments, law enforcement, exchanges, etc could possibly track your use of btc and finally identify you or ppl you sent bitcoin to.

You need to remember that bitcoin is not anonymous (http://www.bitcoinisnotanonymous.com/).

Thus using it in a fully anonymous way, is tricky.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with your up address I think it steers clear away from that and never touches it.

In the new version of core (I mean the next version, so its not released yet) I think they are going to increase TOR functionality, you just open TOR browser and core at the same time and all transactions will go throught Tor if you want.

i read yourr pages and pages of quotes.. and out of all that drivel that didnt explain how or why. the only real useful thing was the link at the bottom
https://bitcoinhelp.net/know/more/top-seven-ways-your-identity-can-be-linked-to-your-bitcoin-address

maybe best to post this link. instead of your subtle monero advert

it's worth noting that getting your IP won't identify your wallet address. So they can't connect to you and then look you up on the blockchain to see who you have been trading with. Associating an address with a person takes normal investigation like searching your computer or associating your IP with a post on the internet containing your address.

Is it a good idea to use a VPN before sending a transaction via an online wallet to preserve your IP address?
