Very interesting reading I come across a little old lady making the Jalapeno's. Now if shes making them how much are they really costing the company to make? If she can do it am sure others could simply make them too. The other thing that worries me too is that if people of her age no disrespect to her or anyone of that age but mistakes can be made and would they really be up to the mining challenge..

Dude, she has probably been putting together computer components since before you were born. Her age hardly matters as much as you make it out to be. She doesn't look like she is 1000 or something.

And yeah, I would rather have these things made by adults making a real wage rather than over seas by kids making nothing at all. Sounds good to me.

I don't know if this is an older picture though, nor do I care.

I find it sad that you would characterize this woman as a 'little old lady'.
I've worked on electronic assembly lines - and people of all ages do it. Mostly it's relatively unskilled work.. just requires attention to detail and some dexterity.

When I worked in an electronics factory, we wore antistatic overcoats and had an antistatic wristband which connected to grounding points on the desks - but perhaps that is particularly cautious.
Static damage to chips seems to be pretty rare - ICs are fairly tough nowdays.

As has already been pointed out - yeah, that pic is from 'back' in the FPGA era.

Those are dual FPGA boards from their last series and she's not making them, she's from BFL's quality control department.  She's actually checking them over and checking for functionality.

I remember the original picture on the BFL site labeled something like "QC ninja", but it actually looks like she is manually re-working them.

I don't really see anything wrong, BFL maybe posted this as a little joke rather then as a real Employee,  or what am i saying it could be she's really good at doing what she dose, it seems to me everyone is taking every little step BFL is making and Nitpicking everything out, if it makes you feel better they just hired 70 senior Citizens to make New Asics...

Well the thing is with their support theirs no guarantee of orders coming through and no guarantee of order date and in own pocket to play with everything is pre order and no option to buy now and ship.

If they where a fully established business you would of thought that they would have already made hardware before ordering on pre order and had a bulk amount ready to go months before pre order and then ship out.

Well that's because there is no point of a guarantee if you want you can always get a refund, that's always possible.
No one said they where a fully established business. there just moving into there new Facility and working hard on trying to get the Asics out ASAP. people really have no idea how much time and money is really put into products. try opening up a business and tell me how it goes.

I run a 14 staff / 4 shop series of bottleshops (Alcohol only retail store in Australia)

I've got a lady about her age (60ish) who is about 5" 6' and wouldn't weigh anymore than most women her age.
But I would trust her to.

-Put away several tonnes of alcohol a day
-work 12 hours straight no problem
-doesn't conflict with other staff
-do accurate till and stock work

I'd trust her to do more work and of better quality than ALL of my staff under the age of 30.

My point?

Don't dismiss somebody because of their age, it makes you look like a retard.

A while back, I had to load and deliver barn wood beams to a client myself because I couldn't get a hold of anybody else to do it. When I delivered it, a crew was on hand to unload. During the unloading process, they moan and complained as to how heavy the beams were. I informed them that this 52-year-old loaded every single one of those beams single-handedly. They smiled in a disbelief tone, therefore I continue to egg them on. With the truck completely unloaded with the exception of the last largest beam, I ask them if they believed me. Basically, they all said no, whereupon I snatched the last beam forward, found the center of gravity, picked it up, then carried it about thirty feet, gently putting it down so not to bruise it. I asked them if they would like to see it again, but they were too worn out to answer.

In my late twenties in Nashville, I was a drywall superintendent for a Houston based outfit. One day I found myself on a job site when the 12' drywall was being delivered. The guys unloading were also moaning and complaining at the job that they were paid to do. Drywall is package two to a bundle, and they just started peeling off the taps so that they can stock the project one sheet at a time which is not advisable to do as the ends would stack unevenly while laying on the floor, acceptable to breakage. The only time you bring in one-at-a-time is when the task of maneuvering through a maze-like structure warrants it.

To prove to them that the task they were doing was not that difficult, I grabbed two bundles (four sheets) of 4' X 12' drywall and carrying them inside, placing them neatly on the stack that they barely started after over an hour on the site. I told them to not pull off the taps and to have a nice day.

That said, I wonder how the dialogues would have gone if the supplied picture in the OP featured a pimpled-face kid.
