Hey guys,

New to Bitcoin, but beginning to appreciate the real potential of digital currencies.

So far I've spent a bit of time reading through here as a guest, mostly following
the epic pirate saga that seems to have plagued the community as of late

Don't let a couple as$holes discourage the adoption of digital currencies!

I think scams actually add to the bitcoin story and make it more real. They also serve as a reminder to people that bitcoins does represent actual money, so it comes with risk.

It really emphasizes the fact that you should be able to make an educated decision on where your "money" goes!

It certainly makes for juicy reads!

Though similar scams occur with real money as well, it is now simply harder to hold a real person accountable after the dust settles

Welcome to the forums, PC. Good handle, good post. Sagas like Pirateat40's scam are captivating at first, but after a time become a touch boring unless of course you were unfortunate to be involved in the mess.

I'm in a slightly generous frame of mind, would you like a first-post tip? I'll need a Bitcoin address from you. Smiley Many of us sleazy "panhandlers" on the forum provide a tips address in our .sigs.

Don't let a couple as$holes discourage the adoption of digital currencies!

A couple? The list of scams is far bigger than any list of legitimate bitcoin related businesses.
Gotta go fast!
