Has bitcointalk ever thought of creating an exchange? Surely this would be an exchange everyone would have a lot of trust in, i know i would use it. What does everyone think? Has this been considered before?

Running an exchange logically needs money (a lot of it) , and BTC that Bitcointalk got from donations is used to fund the new forum software and I don't think there is much money left , at least not for running an exchange .
Beside that , what this new exchange would have ? I mean there is a lot of trusted exchanges out there and we don't need others if you ask me (If it's centralized then there is Coinabse , Bitstamp etc ...) (If Decentralized then there is Localbitcoins which is the most known and used) .

It wasn't that long ago that a bunch of forum accounts and passwords were compromised.  Exchanges need good security.  Besides, it would be far more preferable if we used the considerable collective brainpower here to achieve the goal of decentralised exchange and not rely on third parties at all.

Hmm, starting up an exchange requires a lot of money and time to make it feasible and productive in the long run. As for the management, I think that the forum staffs and moderators already have a lot of tasks and things to do just by moderating this forum. Asking for help from the members of this forum (especially those in the DT and the "most trusted ones") would seem to be an improbable feat as most of them were inactive and have also lots of things to do already.

I thought it might be a good idea but i never really took into account the massive amounts of money it would take. I suppose its got to come from somewhere. I just thought it seemed like a good step to take since bitcointalk is so intertwined with bitcoin. but as a few people have posted, maybe its not needed.  Just an idea.

Unnecessary problems and complications. It really comes down to theymos and I personally think that he does not have enough time to run a proper exchange (i.e. company like Bitstamp). I don't see a single valid reason for 'Bitcointalk official exchange'. There are enough legit exchanges at the moment.

No. Bitcointalk is just a discussion forum, and other than advertisements, no other commercial stuffs are associated to here. So making an exchange (which is obviously commercial) will ruin this forum.

Bitcointalk doesn't need an exchange service. You have the marketplace already.

If you wish to help decentralization, why not create your own exchange?
