Any Australian buyers out there......

So it seems bitcoin is becoming strictly regulated by Australian authorities but I suppose this was expected sooner or later.

A few months ago I could walk into a bank branch, make an anonymous deposit and my coins would be in my wallet within an hour or two.

That exchange has now been closed.

So i moved on to another exchange that requires a proper registration, ID verification etc but no worries. Went through with that because I had to.

That same exchange has since ceased over the counter bank deposits and now I have to wire money from my bank account which has delayed the process by 24 hours at least.

It has now been 26 hours since I wired the money and the status of my order is still "processing". The f**kers aren't replying to emails and their phone number goes to a recording.

I checked their Facebook page and there are quite a few pissed off customers. People experiencing pathetic customer service like I have today and yesterday.

I read a few weeks ago that there were something like 13 exchanges in Australia and now there are only 3. Don't quote me on these numbers though.

What used to take about 2 hours is now taking 2 days which is far too long.

What's everyone else doing? Can anyone recommend any good exchanges that don't screw their customers around?

bitcoin is regulated only when dumped or exchanged for fiat otherwise it is not really regulated in any place, because it's not really possible

you can try circle or localbitcoin, if you have problem buying or selling

Localbitcoins works fine everywhere except the decentralized market and people set their fucking high margins.
however, huge cashouts are going to be inquired anywhere in the world, it ends well if you are legit.

Could that be the start to which sooner they'd ban bitcoin on Australia?
Its normal to experience hassle walking into a bank though but if it takes 24hours, that sure suck. Why not just doing it online instead of going to a bank, just do a transaction online.

When I said regulated I actually meant taking away the anonymity of buying coins. Everything is traceable now which might bother some people.

cannot be done witht he simple movements of your coins, this is the true anon part of bitcoin, but a part from this bitcoin is not anonymous

because if you buy somethig your name will be attached to that addres, the same when you use an exchange

i read about that Australian government is going to restrict Bitcoin more and more. You should go abroad, to Singapore for instance, to buy Bitcoin. Maybe you can go on your next vacation there.

I'm an Australian buyer. I don't have any problems when buying with localbitcoins :-/

I, personally hope the Australian government doesn't restrict bitcoin, it's a wonderful thing. I've already taken precautions, my friend shipped has shipped his miners overseas to my parent's house, in Sinagapore xD

I don't mine, should I?

Maybe send a PM to malcolm, old mate seems very tech-forward... perhaps he'll get old mate Abbott's machete out and start clearing some red tape?

Hi you can buy bitcoins at BTC Markets no problems. The Australian Government is fairly positive about Bitcoin and other disruptive technology. You may be referring to the problems associated with de-banking.
