The thing is that bitcoins are worth something, they can be sent p2p with very little information sharing between the parties, and because they aren't normal currency, people have a bit of a tendency to be reckless with them. This makes bitcoin holders desirable marks for scammers, but also helps scammers justify their actions because "it isn't dollars."
