The former european central banker and author of "New Money for a New World" Bernard Lietaer, speaks about the flaws in the current monetary system.  And the possible future outcomes of the monetary system. Its very interesting.

here is my favorite interview where he talks about the internet a little https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJdwYGI-9Tc&feature=g-hist

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

yeah, often quoted Lietaer here. He advocates a diversity of local community currencies. This is a good paper:

In short, a central bank is a systemic single point of failure.

He's not too fond of Bitcoin though, he doesn't like its hoarding aspect. He believes currency has to flow, and prefers demurrage money, as it would encourage long-term thinking and long-term investments.

Daniel Pinchbeck is pretty cool.

Bitcoin combines money, the wrongest thing in the world, with software, the easiest thing in the world to get wrong.

ok thanks.. i'll check that stuff out.

whats really interesting is he says that when we start a new currency even if it fails we learn and create a new one... so if bitcoin doesnt succeed think about how much we will have learned from it and we will build a better currency.
also he talks about currencys for communities... so that means bitcoin is the currency of the technology community. he says that the technology that we create will allow society to grow without everybody needing to have jobs because its a post industrial society. how exciting.

you know how tough our ancestors were, riding horseback and carriage, working out in the freezing cold and heat. i imagine our grandchildren will say similar things about us how we had to work all day everyday under a dictatorship as our wealth was extracted from us through the currency Smiley

Whenever I hear demurrage, I'm thinking this is code for gold hoarding.

Watching now, I will respond afterwards.   Good find, never heard of him.

Update:   Great video (3-parts), I might actually buy his DVD.   Thinking you don't hear often from someone trained in traditional thought on monetary issues.

http://2012timeforchange.com/solution-practical.php does not list any practical solutions.

Pinchbeck is promoting what, Venus Project socialism combined with New Age spirituality?

Sounds more like he proposes a Ripple type money. The new agey stuff is more about liberal education.

Pinchbeck seems to be more about recruiting celebrities and making money than he is about educating anyone.

Here you can buy a lunch with Him on Ebay...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Future-of-Psychedelics-Lunch-or-Skype-with-2012-Author-Daniel-Pinchbeck-/181040279923

"Join Evolver co-founder and bestselling author Daniel Pinchbeck (“2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl” and “Breaking Open the Head”) for an honest and intimate conversation on the exciting new frontiers for psychedelics in our modern culture."

I'm not against selling knowledge.  That's how teachers earn a living.  I support my teacher http://www.carlosmachado.net by paying him money in exchange for his expertise.  But this "be in my presence for money"  does make Pinchbeck seem a bit tawdry.
