not all altcoins are shitcoins but there is a lot of shitcoins among them . we just have to study about them before we invest . first read the whitepaper & give attention on the team then you can get an idea about the project . think about the roadmap also . so you can decide the holding time. there many good altcoins  I think NEO based altcoins will be good in this year

Actually I wouldn't recommend invest in any other altcoin, because most of them don't have any important thing to contribute
and they have only been developed as pump and dump schemes to speculate and raise money.
So it is enough with your current worth of BTC as a very profitable investment in the long run.

Always buy those undervalued coins. There are a lot of them. I will give you some : xem, utrust, waves, iota, maidsafe. That coins are my prospective coins that are undervalue. Aside from those, ethereum is one though pricey. Neo is one. Try to search on them and analyze their features why they are for keeps.

There are good coins with great potential, but how the coin will grow depends on many factors, the state of the market, the work of the team and many more factors. One of these coins is owned by the Ethereum and neo. Their potential is enormous.

Majority of the investors will choose the most promising coin and btc and ETH is in the top 2 so they will trust their money on both.
For me, since I also believe there are a lot of undervalued coin, I also check other coins which is still in the early stage and study on the team if
they have the capability to deliver.

before investing, what I do is to understand more about what coins will be selected by reading and searching for information from various sources. I found many coins that have good potential and quality with an experienced team of developers. I think a good altcoin to buy is:
1. ethereum (ETH)
2. Dash
3. litecoin
4. Ripples
5. monero

Well, thats really a tough thing to answer.
It seems lately even alot of the 'good' coins are dying out or losing community support.
I think MaryJaneCoin, PotCoin, Dashcoin, and JoinCoin are possible good coins for a long term investment.
