Specifically: Eurodollar (X.IEDG), Nasdaq 100 index (X.INDQ), Nikkei 225 index (X.INKG), S&P 500 index (X.ISP5), WTI (X.EWTI), Natural Gas (X.ENGG), Heating Oil (X.EHOG), Corn (X.ACOG), Soybeans (X.ASBG), Wheat (X.AWHG), Cocoa (X.ACCA), Live Cattle (X.ALCG), Gold (X.MGCG), Silver (X.MSIG), Copper (X.MHGG) and Platinum (X.MPTG).

All BTC-settled last Friday of each month. Anyone can create contracts by depositing collateral, you can create your very own X.MGCG gold future by posting less than 1 BTC per for instance.

My only concern is with scheduled expiration. As with traditional futures markets (and any other market with a periodic settlement date), there is a large incentive to game the system prior to expiration.

It may be worthwhile to consider rolling expirations (based on daily closing prices), perhaps at intervals of 10, 15, and 30 days from contract creation. Bitcoin affords this kind of flexibility where contemporary financial services would need a lot of redesign.

This could alleviate some of the pre-expiry volatility, as less incentive would exist for larger interests to squeeze open interest to their favor based on an across-the-board limit.

That part is certainly appropriate.

MPEx works on an expectation of financial competence and sophistication on the part of the user, but fails to enforce something similar to the minimum net worth controls used IRL for this purpose. It is certainly a bad idea to trade BTC futures or any other BTC financials for significant sums if you do not very well understand the workings of both MPEx and the respective instruments.

We'll gladly answer any questions, but there's absolutely nothing we can do about mistaken assumptions.

This is a legitimate concern, and significant work has already gone into trying to mediate it --work that will likely go on in the future.

Currently, MP's view is that it should be safe overall because a) the size difference between the BTC futures market and the references used is an estimated three degrees of magnitude or more and b) of all the price signals that could be acquired, the close is one of the more difficult to game (especially on futures). In principle it should be much more expensive for an interested party to game the close of say Cocoa (probably one of the more vulnerable products) on a Friday than anything they could clear in BTC by doing so. But this aside, the point remains in principle valid and in effect a concern.
