Do we really need a 10 page news article to tell us what we've known for 6 years about halving?

I had it in my mind Reuters is one of the popular network even today but hell with their pop ads? I have to close the tab for the ad covers the article and clicking (x) doesn't help.
was it just on my computer, how about on your end?   I switch to desktop reuters.com/article/idUKKBN0U60GQ20151223

The halving mania is coming.

Dont get shaken out by all the useless fearmongering threads, non of which have anything constructive to say or evidence for their bearish predictions.

This is why I don't read online news anymore.  Not worth reading anyway and the pages are bloated and intrusive.  Now as to the halvening, this is old news and I don't think it's going to cause a buying spree or spike the price.  Anyone who knows about bitcoin knows about this, and it means little to those just learning.  Yeah, not a big deal.  The price would have reacted already to this "news".

Every halving will be a radically different beast as four years is a lifetime in cryptoland. I wonder whether there was one single media mention of the 2012 happening. There's no real way of predicting what'll happen this time around. Either way it'll be intriguing to sit back and watch.

I don't remember the 2012 halvening being anything spectacular. In fact, it was pretty much a non-event other than the announcement of the guy who solved block 210000 with a radeon graphics card or something, Laughingbear I think his name was. And the guy won some kind of prize or bounty iirc or maybe just the fame of being known as the one who solved it idk. But yeah, other than that, it was business as usual as the halvening had already been priced in.

Are you kidding? The price ran up to new all time highs last time there was a halving! Or is my memory wrong  Huh

what is the next price target for Bitcoin, in the longish run? 1000 is more than real, the question is what comes next
the bubble can take price to 2000+ levels.

Was that not down to other factors like the introduction of ASICs? And I thought a decent rise happened a while afterwards. Could be wrong. I wasn't really around at that point.

That didn't occur until a couple of months after the actual halving. I remember everyon (including myself) getting all geeked up in the months and weeks and days prior to that first halvening and when it came, well nothing much. I'm sure the subsequent rise months later did in fact have everything to do with the halvening, but in the days/weeks around the actual halving... That's how I remember it at least.

yeah it's true, what people tend to forget, is that it did not happen in the same day of the halving, but in that case of 2012 it happened later, this time it will certainly happen before

because we have already faced the heavy down trend from 2014, in 2012, was different

Well it's going to impact greatly on the price... Was dumb enough today to purchase some genesis-mining cloud contracts(lifetime too).

Oh well... I hope the price can double in accordance then Wink

I hate to think what will happen to bitcoin if the halfing doesnt go as expected with a nice price rise. Theres gonna be a lot of disappointed people and potentially an end to crytocurrency. hopefully we get a new ATH.

If everyone is expecting a rise a few things can happen.

A big buy before the halvening and a big dump afterwards (get rich quick people and whales profitting).
A big buy before the halvening and a frenzy afterwards (people going all gung-ho gamble Choo-Choo new ATH at 10k and a drop to $100 Tongue).
A steady rise towards the halvening (might be whats happening now) followed by a stabilization or a slight drop back to the real value.
You just don't know until it happens and then it seemed obvious.

The only thing that is certain is that the in-flow of new coins will go down. As long as more people want bitcoins we're golden.

People are always disappointed if they don't get rich quick Tongue
If getting rich quick was the sole purpose of cryptocurrency it will end but cryptocurrency is more than a get-rich-quick scheme that is already proven. So no matter what happens Bitcoin is not dead.

Bitcoin is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get !!

You know what kind of people are getting disappointed? People who don't know anything about investing, and thus have sky high (unrealistic) expectations. These people will get disappointed.

I personally think we might reach a price of +$1000 again, but I also have to say that I keep in mind that the price may also NOT go up that high. If it doesn't happen, then no problem. It is what it is. We can't do anything beside waiting patiently.

Its inevitable the price will go through the roof due to scarcity never mind increased adoption....
Plz don't change your username before I can laugh at you when it breaks $1000 and keeps on going... Smiley
