Hi to all,

I'm one of the (hopefully) happy future owners of an ASIC, and are checking my (future) possiblities if the difficulty exponentially grows and rewards drop for Bitcoin Mining.

Mining software that will be used is cgminer or bfgminer.
Will a "Bitcoin ASIC" be able to mine for Litecoins too?

From the general perspective it looks like LTC is setup the same as the BTC architechture, however I'm not that deep into it.
Who can enlighten me?

- Mike

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

No. Bitcoin uses SHA2-256 as proof of work, Litecoin uses Scrypt. ASICs currently in development can do one thing and one thing only: hash SHA2-256

Thanks for the straight and clear answer.
Pity though... ;-)
