It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Yeah he got lucky with that full caps one. I had a look about before I made this thread but couldn't find a similar thread. I'm still hashing out some others to see what I can get.

Wow what the hell, I thought Bitcoin was hard coded in a way that would never generate full uppercase addresses... pretty cool know, yet another thing I learned today. I think tho that outside of the exotic factor, vanity addresses aren't recommended, I don't remember exactly but I think there were some negatives about them beside the fact that they stick out too much and you don't want the extra attention.

If I remember rightly there was a service that offered to create vanity addresses. Surprise surprise vanity overruled a few people who forgot that the creator of the address also creates the private key...

It is possible to generate splitkey vanitygen addresses, that way the person mining your address never has access to your private key.

Go to the site bitaddress.org, move your mouse around to add the randomness required then click on the "vanity wallet" button. On that page look at "Step 1" - you will see a "generate" button. Click it. Copy the "Step 1 Public Key" and give that to the person generating the address for you (lets call him the hasher). Copy the "Step 1 Private Key" and keep that to yourself. You will combine your part private key with the part private key the hasher sends you in that same vanity wallet window and it will give you your bitcoin private key in wallet import format. You're the only one that will know it!

If you go here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25804.0Just download that and then follow the steps, Its really simple but obviously the more characters you want in your addresss the longer it will take to hash it out.

Here is my vanity address with my username 1A7mosMtabZcDFdfUaEge3bYzmAfCqzXEf I wouldn't personally trust these Vanitygen generators, especially not the online generators. I have a bitcoin address which i generated from random which starts with 1Body No one should trust these sites that create vanity addresses as they can store the private keys and steal all funds that come to the address. But vanitygen generator is trustworthy as long as you use it on a clean and offline PC

Dont know exactly, over night. Searched for 1vanity and got ybubby too. Just luck. I wouldn't personally trust these Vanitygen generators, especially not the online generators. I have a bitcoin address which i generated from random which starts with 1Body Split key vanity is the only way to do it properly. If someone does not offer split key vanity they have your private key as well.

I still don't understand the importance behind vanity addresses. They make you more vibrant and noticeable in terms of staying anonymous. I wouldn't occupy a vanity address not to say that I'm looking down on others that occupy it. I'm just not interested in them myself, and am obligated to an opinion.

If you are looking down on us, why even bother posting here? Take your anonymity is important spam and go away. Yes, reusing address is discouraged, but whether or not you are anonymous has next to nothing to do with it.

What is a split key vanity address? Is it like in the multi sig wallets where both parties need to agree for the TX to proceed?

No, thats a multi sig address. A split key vanity address is generated in a new that allows you to use it and me to create it without knowing the final private key.

It's a base58 encoding of a 25 bit hex string which is created via ripemd160 How would they possibly hard code it to make all upper case impossible?

i used this one a couple of years ago for mining... before it got so damn expensive...! 12345678sXuEyTaTqYmpxxxxxxxxxxxxx kinda lost interest in vanity addresses after HD wallets came out... passing phase.. barely use them anymore.
