I'm totally lost. I installed the Electrum Bitcoin Client for windows, and when I opened it, it said it couldn't find my wallet. OK, but then it didn't prompt me for where to find it. Then it prompted me for a server to connect to. OK, I picked one. Then it wanted a seed or phrase. But I thought this seed phrase was to encode my wallet or whatnot, but it couldn't find my wallet...?  OK, I typed in a seed phrase. Then there was an error message that said something like "I couldn't save that phrase" (or something like that). Then it opened to the "History" tab.

OK, now what? Did it find my wallet? Is there some way to check to see if it is using my wallet? Is there some way to connect it to a specific wallet.dat fille? What happened to that seed phrase I typed in. Did it create a new wallet for me?

Now that it's open and I can go to the "Receive" tab, how do I create an address that will allow someone to send bitcoins to me?

Thanks!

I'll try to clear up the confusion.

 1. Currently each bitcoin client has its own wallet file format. Electrum can't open wallet.dat files created by bitcoin-qt. The electrum wallet is named electrum.dat by default.

2. Do you see no addresses at all in the receive tab? If that's the case, the wallet has not been created properly. Make sure electrum is closed, find and rename your electrum.dat file to electrum.old and try again.

3. If the issue persists, please post a screenshot.
