About two months ago, 4chan, one of the largest and best-known forums on the Internet, began a subscription service where for $20/year, users could bypass the requirement to enter a captcha when posting.

As of today, Bitcoin is being accepted as a payment method for buying such subscriptions.

One datapoint (Wordpress) can be an exception. Two datapoints (Wordpress + 4chan) can be outliers. But there's also the possibility that these are signs of the wind changing - signs that widespread adoption has finally begun.

Your thoughts?

If there is something that will make Bitcoin succeed, it is growth of utility - greater quantity and variety of goods and services offered for BTC. If there is something that will make Bitcoin fail, it is the prevalence of users convinced that BTC is a magic box that will turn them into millionaires, and of the con-artists who have followed them here to devour them.

I agree, maybe 4chan isnt as big as wordpress, but it will get some news for bitcoin for sure.
With all those news recently, i bet many more sites are working on using bitcoin.
2013 will be a very interessting year for bitcoin.

I was certain this was going to be some type of prank when I went to look.

Nope, it's real:

Wow, after all the crap we got from 4chan a couple of years ago?  This is quite a change in position.

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

Huh, the search function produces nothing.  Maybe that whole incident predates this version of the forum? OR perhaps I'm jsut thinking of the wrong website.  Could there be another internet forum with a name similar to 4chan?

To be fair, there still seem to be quite a few people on the site who think Bitcoin is a joke.

But thanks to services like BitPay and Coinbase (the latter of which the site seems to be using), you can think Bitcoin is a joke and still accept payment in it with impunity.

Oh, no.  The first version was actually attached to bitcoin.org, and couldn't handle the kind of volume that it was getting eventually.  Now it sits on a separate server, and I was just wondering if not all of the archives made the transition.

I don't recall any 4chan incidents. Lots of SA trolling though.

is a know fact that /b/tards do follow moot in any of its decision and if moot decide to accept bitcoins they will follow him

4chan does not have post history. Any thread posted there will be wiped within at most a few days for threads that are really popular, and less than an hour for threads that aren't popular. Like any other chan, any thread posted there has a post limit, after which a thread of that length will be immediately wiped, any thread that falls off the 15th page of results for threads will be wiped as well. The longest threads have a very slow, but continuous post rate, with a post being made every time the thread falls to the last post of the 15th page of results to bounce it back up to the first post on the 1st page. Very popular threads will last a while, but wipe quickly upon reaching the page limit. Unpopular threads will of course fall off the 15th page and cease to exist. It's a bizarre format, but one that probably led to its wide fame.

and because of this there is a endless reposts, copy pasta posts by new fags/old fags/fags/<something>fags and ofc the best troll posts you can find on the internet, I don't think SA trolls can beat 4chan trolls

About two months ago, 4chan, one of the largest and best-known forums on the Internet, began a subscription service where for $20/year, users could bypass the requirement to enter a captcha when posting.

I've not been on 4chan much, but I'm surprised at the $20 to avoid captcha! I wonder how popular that option is!
