I decided to run  full node because it can give one better security, and it provides more flexibility. The minimum requirements as specified on the Bitcoin org site are

Computer with a recent OS - I'm using Windows 10 (but I hate it)
50 Gb of disk space Well I've got 2 Tb on this notebook
Broadband with at least 50KB/s upload speed - I can be down to 20KB/s
An unmetered connection - This varies with location
6 hours a day for running the node

So I plan to run the node at irregular intervals during the day, this will allow the blockchain to synchronise without too much of an overhead, but it will probably be less than 6 hours, and not all in one hit. The low connection speed will probably mean that I will be offering a very inferior service to other users. Will I be disrupting the Bitcoin network by taking this approach? Will I compromise my wallet and transfers in any way?

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Apparently this means DON'T WORRY, JUST TURN IT ON  Wink

There will be no disruption from your side. You only have to wait few sec to sync with other nods, but that's the network is build for.

Take note that blocks will not be relayed to peers, only transactions.

You don't need an unmetered connection. My full node on a dedicated server took up 200GB in one month with the synchronizing included. You can always limit it with the number of peers.

Just to clarify - My post was not addressed at Knight or Wusolini. Somebody made a vitriolic off-topic post which was full of foul language. Quite rightly, it was deleted by a mod, but my response was left. Apologies if this causes any confusion. Smiley

200GB in addition to other stuff you are doing may get you in trouble with certain providers fair use policies in some countries.

Some providers are quite strict about this type of stuff and may even start limiting your speed if you use way more than the avarage user.
