Hash rate cut inhalf - AntMiner S5

I'm a bit new at this, so go easy on me.

I'm currently running Antminer S5 which the hash rate which will just drop off for unknown reason. Currently running Corsair 750 PSU running at 604ish watts to the wall when the miner is fully operation. I have noticed that the the led on the chain board will go off when experiencing a drop in hash, also the power consumption will drop to 315 watts. I've tried a alternative 1000 watt power supply and experienced the same issue. I've also switched the connectors from one side to the other and it seems that it works a bit better, but at he same time I've also put a fan in front of the unit. Currently running the latest Firmware from Bitmain. Since I've made this last change it seems that low hash rate will go back up. Prior to putting the fan in front I would have to reset both the PSU and miner to restore functionality.

I'm beginning to think either a faulty board or maybe the chips need to be re-pasted?? I thought I would share hopefully get some ideas.

you may be over heating the psu and it gives up the ghost.

first off your photos of hash rate don't show  any valuable info to help us guess

first one is hash rate who cares?  I know you do.
second one is a 404 error.

what we need are gui photos.

how do you know you are 604 watts at the wall


the make of the psu is nice corsair but    what is the model?

A s-5  will pull 580 to 620 at the wall at freq 350  depends on psu.

So I don't know which corsair you have.

I also do not know  what freq you set.

it is not quite good enough it has 2 cables with 4 plugs and can fail after a while.  I would never use it with the s-5

I am sure many will come to defend it  but if  it is what you are using you would be one of many coming to this site asking what is wrong.

this is the next corsair 750 it is the non-modular version and it does not have 4 separate cables

I have replied to 10 people in the last year about the 750CXm  and usually the psu is just short of have enough to over come the 2 cable feed in.

I see the shot and as I though only 2 cables not four.

a good easy fix may be use freq 300  see if it shuts down.


The CX750M is borderline gear, the two pcie jacks will be pushing near 300 watts each 24/7/365

Some will work 3 weeks, 3 months ,6 months ,3 hours at freq 350  .

  the cables and jacks are just close enough to being good enough to hide the fact that they are maxed at 600 watts.

if you look careful it has a 62.5 amp  rating for the 1  12volt rail which is about a 726 watt rating .

So cables vary a bit build to build
psu's vary a bit build to build
s-5's vary a bit build to build
home 120 volt  sockets vary from  110 to 122 volts and 240 volt sockets vary from  220 to 243 volts.

So in your case each thing is on the -2 or -5% side of spec then  when you add it all up the psu gives up the ghost but slowly not fast.

I suggest down clock to freq 300  let us know if it works.

In the image I had a 1000 watt PSU running both S3's but I have moved it to only run the S5. I've also wired each plug up with single connections. So coming from the back of PSU I've got 4 individual cables going to the miner...so far the miner as been up and running steady with an avg 1155 Gh/s with a freq of 350. Also running steady 588 watts at the wall. I've noticed that since the PSU swap that the hash rate stays more consistent. I will report my finding in the morning to confirm the stability of the miner.

Side note: According to the picture are the S3's wired properly? I'm relatively need at this, so please forgive my ignorance.

The s5 just dropped out. The power LED on the chain board went off on the left side and the right side remained on. Then 5 minutes later the left board power LED came back on and then the right chain board power LED went off for about 20 minutes. I will mention that when the chain board power LED was off the GUI says that both boards are operational. Obviously knowing this is not true because hash speed dropped and also the physical touch of the heat sink feels cooler. I must mention that the unit never stopped hashing it's power consumption went down to 310 watts.

Within about 20-30 minutes the hash rate is back to normal (1.2 th/s) and everything is operating as normal. As of right now the hash rates are back to normal and the power consumption is is at 588 watts.

This is a well known behavior of bitmain's crappy S5 miner, most of them have this defect. You can try to lower frequency to make it more stable or leave it as is.
