I posted this on Facebook

Quote
Giving away 1$! Free Money!
In the sprite of Christmas, I am giving away 1$ worth of bitcoin to the first 5 people to post their email address below.

What is bitcoin?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Um63OQz3bjo

The Catch?
Once I've sent you the bitcoin you must figure out how to spend it (or sent it to your bitcoin wallet) before 2013

feel free to post comments and questions below

Mary Christmas!

I plan to e-mail them a bitcoin paper wallet, ( the fancy one that looks like a bill )
If the coins are still their on 1st of 2013, i will redeem them.

I'm not active on face book so I only have 113 friends so i think i wont even get a bite... anyway...

what do you think about this?

I've tried such giveaways with precious little luck. Bah, they don't like free money... Tongue

I've always wondered if it would be different were I to put up an offer of BTC25 for free, instead of BTC0,25... Grin

Yeah.. I too tried this and didn't get any bites.
0.1BTC was probably too stingy - but I figured it was a good measure of whether people in my wider circle were even curious.
They don't seem to be.

I tried this too with single full bitcoins, nobody wanted them -.-
I figured nobody would take it if it were just pennies, but even full bitcoins or 2 or 5... nope, nobody...
It was a while ago though...

Ya, I'vr been hiding bitcoins in geocaches... but no one has followed the instructions to redeem them.

Some people just don't believe in free lunch.

Coinbase for selling BTCs
Fold for spending BTCs
PM me with any questions on these sites/apps!  http://www.montybitcoin.com

or Vircurex for trading alt cryptocurrencies like DOGEs
CoinNinja for exploring the blockchain.

I know social marketing's the big thing at the moment because it's so low-cost, but I swear to god that any "friends" who try to market anything to me via my social media accounts will find themselves on the same shit-list as any friends who try to pitch their MLMs to me.

I guess that's a good thing to ask yourself when you're trying to promote Bitcoin.  If you sound like an Amway evangelist then you might want to revise your strategy.

All I can say is that this is Bitcoin. I don't believe it until I see six confirmations.

"Hey guys. I need this Bitcoin shit moved out of my wallet this weekend. Any big manly dudes free to help me out with that? There's pizza and beer in it for you (or whatever those bitcoins can fetch nowadays. Let me know!"

I told a couple of my friends that if they bought my book for $3.99, read and created an address I would send them 0.5 BTC.  3 sent me an address. :-)  I'm trying.  I have had a couple hundred downloads of the book too.

The way to spur Bitcoin adoption is not to give random people coins and hope they use it, but rather to put highly desirable goods and services that people actually want but are available only with Bitcoins (or, that they are significantly cheaper or easier to obtain using Bitcoins).

Giving away some spare coins is a classic nice idea to make bitcoin known.

But we still need more and more local places they can spend it too.

Spending them at their local cafe (instead of spending them online) has much better value, it is fun and makes the whole transaction 'real'.
