We have just launched the first decentralized microblogging platform as part of MaskNetwork (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1272309.0). It's the twitter with no central server / authority, 140 characters limit, cenzorship and so on...

To test it choose a web node and go to tweets.

How it works :
---------------------------------------------------------
1. An user post a tweet. He / she can attach up to 5 pics.

2. The "tweet" packet is broadcasted to all nodes.

3. Once included in a block the "tweet" will become visible on all web nodes.

Same rules apply for follow, unfollow, comments or like data packets.

Advantages :
----------------------------------
- No central server

- No central authority holding the personal data of hundreds of millions of users.

- No censorship (Web node operators can only "hide" content, but when 200-300 web nodes will be active completely censoring a post will become almost impossible, no matter the content.)

- As easy to use as the real twitter. There are no usability differences. Nothing to download. You can follow, unfollow, post comments or setup a profile for each address (Sample :  http://maskplace.net/pages/tweets/adr/index.php?adr=ME4wEAYHKoZIzj0CAQYFK4EEACEDOgAELY6%2FItayEz371H0LK5iAvlI076G1ZhVtQADv31yCYi%2F%2FBw2vh72ij%2B6xYDWvRivwkRZkWP2hML4%3D)

- No content restrictions but i'm sure node operators will "filter" really illegal posts.

so does this work like bitmessage?

Bitmessage is a P2P communications protocol used to send encrypted messages to another person or to many subscribers. The messagin system inside MaskNetwork is the equivalent of bitmessage. It allows you to send encrypted messages to any MaskNetowrk address.

The new feature is "the decentralized twitter". Tweets are public, you can follow / unfollow and address, like, comment...and so on.

It's basically a decentralized social network, 100% web based so you don't have to download anything.

It's basically the first decentralized social network, 100% web based so you don't have to download anything.

Actually I think that Qora beat you to that (by at least a month if not a few) but still good to see others working on similar ideas (btw - I don't think it is good practice to claim a "world's first" when in fact it isn't - and especially when there are blockchains to "prove" when things happened).

If your "world's first" claim is more specific then just a "decentralized social network" then please update your OP to show that (you may have achieved a "world's first" but not as the "world's first decentralized social network").

Although it never really made it (likely due to Mark Zuckaberg's influence) wasn't the Diaspora project the world's first such thing (and that was a few years back)?

With CIYAM anyone can create 100% generated C++ web applications in literally minutes.

I meant the first web based...Qora is not web based. You have to download a client to use it. It's hard to say what diaspora is / was because no matter what pod (web node) you use, there is no content / no community...nothing. And there was also Twister. I still remember trying to install it for 3 hours with no success (http://twister.net.co/?page_id=23).

Right now MaskNetwork testnet is the only place where you can "tweet" something using your browser with no central server / authority. It has the "touch and feel" of the real twitter and i am sure it will be used intensively by the future MaskNetwork sellers to stay in touch with customers.

Anyway, i have change the statement until i read more about diaspora...Smiley

You can use Qora via web - so that is not correct.

nah, you can read-only via web sure, but you always need the client to perform an action.

Oh - I had assumed it worked like Burst (which can work with online wallets) - but in either case the claim does need to at least be clarified in regards to this.

Qora lets you do a lot via the web, but not every function is implemented yet.  You can post, though.  Qora and MaskNetwork are both written in Java, it would be great to see code re-use between them.

I bought some coins from the masknetwork presale but never got them e-mailed to me.  I submitted a support request but no reply.

Looks very interesting, website is easy to navigate and has plenty of tools, tweeting looks as easy as (if not easier) than tweeting on Twitter!

How do you cope with SPAM?

I'll give it a test properly later and will be grabbing some MaskCoins, seems the site doesn't fully work via my iPad.

Register on the online wallet, it's very easy to use

1. So the decentralized database is a block chain?

2. Does the browser need to run Java applets to do wallet level operations?

3. What is the advantage for the user of a decentralized block chain storage for their tweets? The data is open to display/access to anyone and thus isn't owned by Twitter, so tweets can be displayed by any client, not just through an API authorized by Twitter. Talk about how this creates advantages that users care about? Sounds like it will be used by terrorists so then the government has an incentive to shut it down.

4. How can this remain decentralized if the mining becomes centralized? Seems the same centralization problems that plague crypto currency thus hang over the head of any current block chain design.

5. Why should we think a product that is breaking SEC regulation by selling shares has any long-term future? The government can make an example out of you with SEC action.

well everything is a pump, but a 'twitter' like service is a must in the crypto space, and the brand MASK is not bad.

Right. I have a bridge named 'twitter' in China. And China is the future. And China has 1.2 billion people.

Edit: and everybody loves Chinese takeout
