So question for everyone:

Right now the game is really fun when 3 or more people are playing. We've had windows of time where this is the case and everyone is enjoying themselves. The problem is when no one is playing and someone new shows up. Then they ultimately leave because nothing is going on. I've tried to remedy this a little by letting people play "single player" against the website. They don't need to bid anything, but if they answer the question right, they get some bitcoin from the website. That way they might stay long enough that other people might join.

Does anyone have any other ideas for how I could get more people on the site so that this isn't as big of a problem?

A referral reward system.

And once there are enough people on board, it would be great to have different trivia 'rooms' for different subjects (history, sports, entertainment, science etc.)

@Bimmerhead I like your idea of a referral reward system. If I can figure out a way to implement it without people cheating and making a bunch of fake accounts, then I might seriously consider doing it.

And yeah, for a future version, I was planning on offering multiple rooms based on category and also high stakes/low stakes. I just hope the site can grow to that level!

@twix - if there's a large number of people who speak a certain language that want to play, then it would make sense. Right now everyone is so diverse though and the most common shared language between everyone is English. But yeah, if there's a large group that would like to play in a certain language I'd be up for it :-)

Just make the referral reward a function of how much the referred users spend at the site.
