So ive been stuck on trying to figure out what exactly is wrong for a week or so now, im trying to upgrade one of my pcs with a new cpu but the system after swapping out to the new cpu is not stable. what happens after inserting the new cpu: bios loads ok, i can configure all my settings fine, save, and exit. windows (8.1) loads fine, i can log in and see my desktop. however, within 1 minute of logging in, the system either (1) straight up crashes and reboots (no blue screen, screen turns black and just reboots), or (2) freezes. nothing can be done, just stuck on the desktop and cant even move my cursor, and i have to shut it down and reboot. the system is completely stable with the current cpu.
relevant specs (kinda important) please note, this is an AMD system. mobo: MSI 890FXA GD-65 (MS-7640) AM3 socket, AM3+ socket compatible cpu (current**): athlon 2 X3 440 cpu im trying to upgrade to: FX - 4350 (vishera)
note, bios has been updated to the latest version already (18.9) and the system is stable (with the athlon). no errors with 2 runs of memtest either. windows sfc also shows no problems with windows, and its a fresh install. power supply is more than sufficient for the upgrade as well. event log does not show anything, as it only shows the kernel power errors from me having to shut down the pc or it rebooting when it crashes. system is very well cooled and dust free although its a bit old. with the current cpu, the pc has no problems with any tasks thrown at it, from gaming to video encoding. feel free to ask for info if ive left anything out.
any help would be appreciated, ive tried an extensive number of tests to try to get to the root of the problem, but im stuck on this one. and please dont spam in here if you have no idea what youre talking about.
