Mexican authorities snared drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman in a bloody raid Friday, recapturing one of the world's most notorious and slippery criminals.

"Mission Accomplished," President Enrique Peña Nieto announced via Twitter. "We have him."

Members of Mexico's navy caught Guzman in an operation at about 4:30 a.m. (6:30 a.m. ET) in the coastal city of Los Mochis in Sinaloa state, a senior law enforcement official in Mexico told CNN.

Several people aligned with Guzman died in the raid, the official said. The Mexican navy put the number of dead at five, with six others arrested. No navy personnel were killed, and only one was injured.

Whats the point of capturing the guy. The government is so corrupt over there. All that's going to happen is some high ranking official will be bribed or threatened for his release or escape.

Its one of the reasons why that country is run by the cartel. When the government is corrupt. The police force is corrupt and the citizens wont give any information about these people because they are either scared or worship these people because they put money into the community. Nothing will change.

In a country where the police force is crooked enough to let this guy out twice, how is there not a single guy who is crooked for the better?? Nobody who murders the guy behind closed doors and claims that he was trying to escape? Im sure the officer would find himself on the wrong end of cartel justice, but someone needs to off this guy.

Now; this is one invasion by U.S. forces that would make sense to me. Occupy the border districts, clean up the place, withdraw. Rinse and repeat in a couple years.

It´s easy as a pizza pie. First decide the area you want to clean up. Paratroopers/special forces capture key points in the rear, marking the periphery and preventing escape. Then the clean-up crew rolls in.

He was probably the one who covertly called in the military, just to kill off his buddies who he didn't like anymore.

I bet they would not ever bust him if he did not try to become celebrity. Authorities there are way too corrupted to do arrest like this just like that.

There is only one solution to this. Legalize the drugs. The Mexican drug cartels simply exist due to the lack of availability of legal drugs on the American side of the border. Capturing Joaquin Guzman and putting him behind the bars for the rest of his life will not make much of a difference. He will be quickly replaced by someone else.

It has started, in marijuana but then there´s cocaine. And heroin I guess. And a variety of pills.

Much of crime is caused by users trying to fund their habit so maybe it´s best to legalize it all and make it cheap. There are always costs but reducing crime and improving the safety of the public is worth a lot after all.

Very true. Back in October 2014 when the government changed the laws regarding hydrocodone, word on the street here in Houston was the cartels had massive amounts of heroin just waiting to flood the streets as soon as the laws went into effect on October 6th - Houston was/is a major hub full of pill mills, much like Tampa with their oxy clinics and sure enough, when the laws went into effect, many of those users switched to heroin as it was not only cheaper, but now more accessible. The thing with this is, a good portion of those users aren't what you'd picture as the average addict and what was already a huge problem here is now even bigger and much more deadly. The cartels aren't going anywhere as long as there is such a huge market for them up north, the amount of money being made by the cartels is staggering.

There is a better solution than legalizing drugs.

People forget that they want freedom. But if they remember, they don't think it through.

What if it wasn't drugs. What if it was your hair comb in your pocket. What if government regulated your hair comb. If your hair comb isn't regulated in your area, what can you do with it? Anything you want, right? As long as you are not hurting someone else with it, you can do anything you want, right?

If government made some kind of law that said it was okay to have a hair comb in your pocket, haven't they regulated it? No! They have regulated you. If you want freedom, you don't want regulation. You might want information, like how keeping a hair comb outside of your pocket for more than 5 minutes at a time, is dangerous for you and other people. But you don't want to be told what to do... that you are required by law to do it.

Get government out of legalization. But first, get them out of illegalization. Get them out of regulation of your personal property, because the truth is, when they regulate stuff, they are really regulating their property. And their property that they are regulating is YOU, not some comb, and not some drugs.

If you need government regulation in your life, because you are so wimpy that you can't determine when someone has hurt you, let them regulate only the people who harm other people. This way you can be free. But if you don't like freedom, at least get government out of other peoples' lives so that they can be free.

Don't legalize drugs, but don't illegalize them either. Repeal all the laws against drug use, and leave people alone to run their own lives. But punish them when they hurt other people.

A Mexican official tells the AP El Chapo was captured as a result of Sean Penn’s apparently not-so-clandestine meeting with the drug lord last October, a report that, if true, should ensure Penn sleeps somewhat uneasily for the rest of his life.

Though Penn outlines many of the security measures he was able to observe throughout the rambling, 11,000-word piece, the meeting was ultimately arranged by the Mexican film star Kate del Castillo who, according to Penn, communicated with El Chapo via BBM. ABC News also reports Penn and del Castillo are both under investigation by the Mexican government. That report, if true, would indicate neither actor were aware they had been tracked. (If the highly convenient AP report is to be believed—earlier reports indicate officials caught up to the drug lord when he tried to cast his biopic.)

Honestly—who knows? Definitely not Sean Penn.

Either way, is hanging with Spicoli worth the loss of your freedom? Some, like Charlize Theron, say no. Others also say... no.

Yet again another pointless war for the US. You would think everyone here in the US would be tired of war, but yet people are so adamant that "the US is the best country in the world", and think war will help solve many issues. WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER.
