From
http://edition.cnn.com/2016/01/07/europe/paris-attacks-brussels-operatives/

The man, using the false Samir Bouzid identification card at a Western Union outlet in the Brussels area, wired 750 euros ($807) to Hasna Ait Boulahcen on November 17, the Belgian prosecutor's office said. Both of the publicized suspects -- the men going by the names of Kayal and Bouzid -- were at the store from which the money was sent.

Time to stop the stupid rumor that BTC is used by the bad guys. They're using WU.

Yes, they use everything that can facilitate their operations, either good or bad, depending of the one's point of view.

And nobody can blame them for using bitcoin, if they are using it of course. They are using cell phones and emails as well, so I don't see why wouldn't they use bitcoin if it helps them achieve their goals.

They use any means possible to send/receive money, if governments really want to stop terrorists they need to focus less on how and where are they getting their funds but more on where are they buying guns and explosives from.

And they might use more Bitcoins in future as lot of their cash stored in a bank was destroyed recently by US air-strike:
Citing unnamed US defense officials, CNN reported that the building was destroyed by two 2,000 pound bombs. The officials could not say exactly how much money was held at the bank or in what currency the funds were denominated, but one described it as "millions," CNN said.

Terrorists and criminals use every form of money and payment system they can take advantage of.
They use banks, paypal, WU and MG, cash(mostly USD) and in very small amounts I think also crypto currencies.
But just because a small minority of people use it for bad things doesn't mean that cryptos are bad.
Different with banks. And this is known since decades and nothing ever happens to these bastards.

american criminals use mostly USD
european criminals use mostly EURO
british criminals use mostly POUNDS..

also there is no proof bitcoin was ever used in the paris attacks, or any other terrorist attacks
for instance
the paris attacks, the main terrorists sold their Pub/Bar to fund their insanity for euro's. and moved the funds to friends relatives and co-horts via western union. aswell as paying for the car hire, etc in....... you guessed it, euro's.
there guns were bought through a licenced gun shop in america.. not some darkweb honeypot. which again the licenced gun shop accepted fiat..

things like the london 7-7 bombing was before bitcoin and so was new yorks 9-11 attack.. so there is no proof that bitcoin is related to terrorism.

end of story

It is refreshing to see it's not just Bitcoin that are constantly under attack. These people will use any form of money or something with value to achieve their goals. You stop one

method and they come up with 3 other methods. It is very similar to the telephone hacks over the years... the coin operated telephones suffer multiple exploits and then they

switched to smart cards and pre-paid cards and those were faked too. Given enough time, people will find a way to cheat the system.  Roll Eyes

wow, that's pretty interesting news, whether western union can not detect where the money was sent, or detect suspicious transactions that exist on their list? but really a relief if the terrorists do not use bitcoin  Smiley

and don't forget brother hackers uses all things to hack.. they uses everything which can be used as payment and currencies..
so you can't say that bad guys only uses WU..
but they hacks WU money... and they can't hack btc... so they sell WU in exchange of btc..

Thanks Mr for posting this thread.

I don't know why people (including most bitcoins user's) are quick to spread rumour.

What do you expect, people like to talk & criticize anything that's hot with rapid impact.Journalist are attracted toward's pointing & forging their headline(s) to bit-related stories because without such headline(s) their story will not attract public attention.

Western Union have been in this industry for year's so, it no news to most people. Is quick for anyone to believe any accusation that is associated with bictoins since, the e-currency keep gaining momentum at a time like this.

Thanks

I do not think that everyone (western union or bitcoin users) will believe with all of this, I mean they will not be affected by the news of a case of this, this is a natural thing, all kinds of payments could be used by the bad guys, this is normal

Yup they wanna make sure their transaction with hiding from the government’s face I am sure they would have pick bitcoin or any other digital currencies only. Because government officials will not able to identify easily until they know. They were using largely in smuggling and buying weapons and other stuffs. I think they are using it to make them secure and convenient to transfer money

Thank you country free for posting this one. Now we got some good side going on. Bitcoin always seen as bad but the truth will come out somehow with more people supporting it and people are getting more intellectual now so they will see what is real or not.
