I still have yet to obtain as many bitcoins as I had with my first purchase.

So, in essence, I have made no money from bitcoin.

So true it hurts :/

i don't think anyone not stupid enough, would tell you how much he made, because i'm sure there are feds watching here, they are waiting for thread like this to bust your house

in fact besides the Burt story i remember a member with 200k bitcoin here, and the police entered in his house and confiscate the amount

Do you know how and why? I see no reason for doing that, it's a bit a crazy story. Why would it be forbidden to have entered in btc really early?

i don't know about the case which Amph is talking about but these things usually happen because of illegal activities such as dark web stuff or big scams, or it can be because of tax evasion or lack of licence for conducting business.
you can find the detailed stories on news sites by searching bitcoin related arrests.

probably for tax evasion as already mentioned, i see no other reaosn, keep in mind that 200k bitcoin is a very large amount, i remember it happened when the value increased

probably the guy did used a big portion to buy something that can not go unnoticed

I dont think we are going to hear of many big earners in this thread, i know if i made it big i probably wouldnt be broadcasting it all over the place. I always just assume that any of the members with old accounts have already hit the big time thouhg i know a few will have sold too early and made minimal gains. If bitcoin does ever explode like it did in 2013 then i want to be sure i dont sell early.

Trading seems the only way to do that in my view. That and perhaps some HYIP/Ponzi website, which would not be legal, that is. Mining in the early days may be another possibility for a big ammount.

You know everyone is going on about tax evasion, but if they pay the taxes due to the governments on the coins they sell, it would not be a crime. In most countries you only

pay Capital Gain tax on the profits you made... if you wait long enough, and set a goal for yourself on how much money you want to make from this, you can easily cover the tax

you have to pay and still make a honest and huge profit. The problem is people are greedy and they want to keep everything and then want to complain if the government wants

to prosecute them for tax evasion. Pay what is due, and enjoy your profits without having to look over your shoulder every day.  Wink

i bought at $6 a bitcoin in 2012.. im sitting pretty and no longer care about the spikes or dumps of daily/weekly/monthly activity.

i spend what i want when i want and know im better off then i was in 2012. i dont even get excited about the penny pushers dreams of $10,000-$1m a bitcoin.
as thats just the dream of people with only $20 dreaming of becoming millionaires without actually earning bitcoin properly
The question is: How many bitcoins did you purchase so you can say you are sitting pretty now and when did you sell if you did at all to not be able to care about the price from where it stands now and going into the future?
Buying at $6 a coin will never ever happen again. Not in this life time even for those ones living in a dream bubble.

Well not if you buy BTC. ETH is at about 1$ a pop right now. I bought a 1000 just to make sure. And some Dash and some XMR. Seems development is going a lot quicker on other coins then bitcoin lately.

I can not say that I have made that much when it comes to the bitcoin and the trading as a whole. However, I can say I have earned more than I could ever get in a white collar job. I am so happy since the growth is positive as we aim higher.

Trading cannot earn you mich in terms of bitcoins as it depends on how much amount one is ready to invest. I can say that only the admins, moderators or users who have bought or mined bitcoins in early 2009/2010 have earned the maximum. There were users who donated over 50 BTC to this forum and they must have earned more than that and if they have not sold their coins, they must be just lucky to collect so many bitcoins now.

Definitely not me.
I was too late in the game to make significant gains or to buy bigger amounts of Bitcoin for a price in the 1 or 2 digits.
Sad but that's how it is.

Damn yeah , bitcoin big holders would never share on public how much bitcoin they made in 2009 and hodling it until now.
Because they realize government will confiscate the amount offhandedly.
I think there is no right to confiscate lots amount of bitcoin from holders because your the owner and you just bought it before.
But if this happen you can give the other wallet password to hidden you other wallet.. i think this the best way..

Don't know much about ETH but if it required to download another wallet, then no thanks.
I have 4 different wallets and the .dat files have clogged my hard drive to the point of almost having it run at a snails pace.

I'm in the US and I'd say making $50,000 is a lot for a lot of people.  Hell, people are lucky if they make that in a year and I can't say I've made any money on bitcoin--yet.  I'm still accumulating it, but I'm always tempted to buy precious metals with it.  Well it is a currency, after all, but I won't be in the black until it hits $500.
