Mike makes a lot of good points, but he is such a tantrum throwing drama queen.  XT dies, and suddenly he finds it appropriate to "sell his bitcoins" and declare bitcoin dead.

However, the big point I get out of this is that Mike Hearn / R3CEV / HyperLedger are probably going to take a run at cornering the Crypto Market soon.

And I think that Mike's pissy letter is simply an example of what the Bitcoin Community can expect to come.  I think Bitcoin Classic is getting ready to get hit on two fronts.  The whining idiots at Bloackstream look like tey are willing to try and make this a "Do or Die" fight.  Its obvious that with the support already out there for Classic, it is most likely they will "die" and Classic will Fork, and will be the last Bitcoin standing.

But I fear that Blockstream could throw enough FUD out there for a Fiat Coin to come along and Mass Media will take the opportunity to point to the confusion in Bitcoin to justify why we need to accept the "Grownup, Stable Cryptocurrency" that the Big Banks/Fiat will trot out.

Mark my words - there is getting ready to be a shitpile of activity in the next few months.

XT was never really alive, and (while promoting several factual and logical errors) Mikey did not many any good points.  The closest he came was by unintentionally demonstrating the Peter Principle and Dunning-Kruger effect.  IE, he's a codemonkey who has no business dealing with anything beyond an IDE, yet fervently believes Honey Badger should give a shit about his ridiculous opinions.

I guarantee Mikey will be back.  His self-indulgent Goodbye Cruel World tantrum was merely a plea for attention (and tacit admission of impotence via XT's failure). 

If Mikey was sincere, he would have simply and silently rage quit and rage dumped without all the fanfare.  We may be on opposite sides of the fence, but I know a fellow Bitcoin drama addicted obsessive when I see one.

He smears Bitcoin with lies, and major exaggerations. Provides no proof, not that it is needed for me because it contradicts my real life experience. He also smears another major developer with a misleading half truth (i.e. lie).

Its hard to be sympathetic to somebody who does not show that curtsey to others.


We should be bigger people. Mike, like Greg did make many contributions and should be thanked for them.

I think Mike needs to look critically at himself and learn from his mistakes. I think his ego is actually fragile and he was hurt that fellow developers and peers rejected many of his ideas. He took that personally as a rejection of himself and harboured resentment to his colleagues.

That resentment showed up in his actions, communications and failure to be a team player. He could not accept people disagreeing with him so circumvented development process by trying to rally public opinion to his cause to 'prove himself right' and save his ago. When that did not work he rejected bitcoin and in a case of sour grapes declares it as a failure, and will probably resent its success as it shows his own failure and hurts his ego.


His posts were often hyperbolic and indirectly or directly attacked the core development team. He was probably the biggest cause of the toxic atmosphere we have in Bitcoin now.

His followers started going even more extreme then him with ridiculous venom towards block-stream and core devs. Theymos moderation policies then polarised the community further and gave the big blockers a feeling of victimhood that made them yet more extreme.

Ah yes, there's the good old 'Sell Gavinblocks Using Fear' approach we know and love.  The problem is you don't understand antifragile systems require adversity (such as _Classic and fiat) to grow more resilient and thrive.

In the Crypto currency scene, it is a free for all. You propose something and your competitors have a stab at it and concentrate on your flaws. Mike and Gavin wanted to exploit users by introducing suspect spy code and his competitors just had to highlight and expose it. They dug the hole and now they want to complain about it.

The developers protected their community from these actions and that is how it should be. If something threatens the community, it must be exposed and made public. They even hyped up the need for bigger block sizes with scare tactics and we are still here, with no problems.

I fail to see the need to cry over the loss of a developer that operated like a bully. The Core guys might not be perfect, but the ship is still floating in the ocean. We will ride this out, like all the attacks {stress tests} we faced last year.

Why would someone agree to false information? There is no censorship nor dictatorship on BTCT. Theymos has not changed any policies AFAIK for months if not longer (which I couldn't really tell).
