Troubled bitcoin and altcoin exchange Cryptsy made an announcement overnight that may have shocked many, or maybe not because of all the problems they have been having for over the past year. The announcement came with a few surprising pieces of information though.

these altcoin exchanges are doomed. i think this will happen with all altcoin exchanges at some point in the future. it's just a matter of 'when'. i feel bad for the people that lost their coins due to cryptsy shutting down. it is just another warning that people should never keep their coins in their exchange accounts.

Claiming theft from a cold wallet is BS. If any theft happened from a cold wallet it must have been done by someone at Cryptsy themselves - if it even happened at all. This is yet another repeat of the Gox debacle, & it won't be the last until peeps realize that all exchanges are scams waiting to happen..

It is quite impossible for thief to steal from cold storage. I think that Cryptsy should compensate users for their losses.

it's not impossible at all. the owner(s) of cryptsy are probably the thiefs here. the supposed theft happened back in 2014. they have had enough time to come up with a plan.

Does anybody here really believe that story?!
In my opinion there was no theft!
The only thieve I can see here is cryptsy themself by having stopped people's withdrawals.
Cryptsy guys took the rest of the money which had been on the exchange and ran away. That's it!
Hire a bounty hunter and get those bastards!

I really hope that people would have learned after MtGox, and known by now if you're going to use a bitcoin exchange, get your money and move it safely to a wallet you control. And not leave it on the exchange. And there have been many signs over the past year, telltale signs just like with MtGox, that lead up to this event.

I have never used cryptsy before. But I believe this fake hacked announcement is just a scam exit way.
Because there were a lot of threads complaining about the long withdraw time and closing accounts
