If Paul Vernon took a lie detector test and it indicated he was telling the truth, would you be willing to forgive him and trust what he says again? I think if Vern is going to sell Cryptsy or continue to run it he should take a lie detector test. But only regarding the theft.

1) he has already moved over to bitbi9,
2) cryptsy's value is minus 2000btc atleast.. it holds no asset value as the Fincen registration is not with cryptsy.. its with project investors. and vern is not selling project investors. nor is project investors part of any bankruptcy plans... cryptsy is just a limp arm that can be amputated without pain to vern

I think the hack story looks too suspicious like it's an inside job. I think he should be willing to take a lie detector test if he didn't steal the money.

A lie detector test can be faked and people know how to cheat it. It is for that reason not admissible in a court of law. Some companies still use it but it's not worth anything if you know how to cheat it. They should just continue with the investigation and see what comes out of that.

I never store lots of bitcoins on these services, for this exact reason.

I'm not sure if lie detector tests have any legal meaning? They might be easy to manipulate even.

Then again, Paul Vernon should not be allowed to run any corporation ever again after something like this. It is judgements calls like this that cost honest people lots of money.

Also, the coins of the hack are still sitting in several wallets, which may indicate that there could be a slight chance that the hacker will return it.

Why make this individual take a polygraph..? What is that going to achieve?  Huh The reality of the situation is that a enormous amount of coins on an exchanged basically disappeared under this individual's watch. The most terrible thing is there a flaw in the system, the flaw was discovered, yet it was still allowed to occur and continue. There is no reason why this should of happened.

studies show psychopaths have no emotion. and thus wont sweat, hyperventilate, raise their pressure when asked questions.

meaning psychopaths have more chance to cheat a lie detector. which is why lie detectors are not really used as evidence in a court of law. and only use as an indicator

Not sure where that came from, is vern a proven psychopath? There are feelings of emotions, it is just not felt the same way as it is in others and does not last as long but that is wrong to say no emotions although right the chances are higher to cheat the test.

He would never agree to one to begin with so i dont really care. Another thing even if he was telling the truth he could still easily fail the test which is another reason it is not really used as evidence in a court of law.

Yes, it says so at the foot of Cryptsy's homepage. If Cryptsy goes bankrupt so does Project Investors Inc, but Paul Vernon will probably not be bothered because any debts will belong to Project Investors Inc, not him. He will be more concerned at being prosecuted for all the shady activities reported to have taken place at Cryptsy.

Also, the coins of the hack are still sitting in several wallets, which may indicate that there could be a slight chance that the hacker will return it.

This is an excellent point. There are hundreds of thousands of dollars in altcoins still sitting in various "known" cold wallets - meaning Paul is still being irresponsible with customer funds.

If you're saying Cryptsy should be using their remaining funds to immediately pay out their creditors, I'm not sure that's what legal counsel would advise. You can probably look at Mt Gox's implosion for an idea of how a responsible legal professional would likely advise the remaining funds should be handled: A long-winded legal process where all assets are liquidated by a third party, and creditors reimbursed in FIAT, relative to their outstanding claims as determined by some court. (approximately).

I am most certainly not qualified to give legal advice myself. But the above appears to be what gox's aftermath indicates is the way things are handled.

i can only think of one reason why the hacker would return those coins, manipulating the shit out of the market

you steal some major amount of coins ==> instigate a panic sell, you buy now cheap and return the coins stolen, repeat for other exchange

but unless someone is making big profit with this, it would be better to not return anything

haha there's nice comment there on youtube: You should pay them another visit. Oh wait, they've vanished without a trace.

Idk, have they? I mean I don't think it's so hard to find someone in today's world. And btw was it a hack?

Whatever he does now regarding transparency is completely irrelevant, he should just refund his customers, period. No one is really going to forgive him or trust him for further business, neither anyone who left coins there will forgive himself.

Lie detectors test have been to be really inaccurate in the past. I wouldn't trust a lie detector test as definitive proof that someone is telling the truth or not, it's just not fair. In any case, I don't believe any exchange, I think its always an inside job.

Lie detector tests are easily cheated. They can usually result in false positives and false negatives. Even though lie detectors still are considered evidence in court, they don't work very well and have failed for many criminals who were still convicted based on other evidence.

The lie detector test may result wrong in both ways, it is something probabilistic at best.

We should look for facts and evidences that would not require trust in any person or questionable methods
