I have not really find a real answer on this. They provide a model number but there are cheaper hp server psu on ebay and I was wondering if they only work for that one type they say

What do you call a gridseed HP PSU converter?
As far as I know, Gridseed never made any breakout board to adapt a server PSU.
This is probably a breakout baord either made by sidehack, or Gigampz, maybe one of mine or a chinese one I saw since a few month.

But anyway, most of the breakout boards will only work with one kind of server PSU because the connector and pinout are specific.
You can have either one single PSU that will work, or a few different ones with different efficiency and power output (like the Common Slots PSUs)

Custom Server PSU breakout boards, 1200w, 1300w, 2000w, 2880w https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=738527.0
