A high-profile Bitcoin developer has said the crypto-currency has failed and he will no longer take part in its development.
Mike Hearn, a Zurich-based developer and long-time proponent of Bitcoin, surprised many this weekend when he published a blog calling Bitcoin a "failed" project.

However, it is saddening to me that the community as a whole has been so uninterested in working with "altcoins" that offer real innovation in order to make the entire space more robust.
For instance: bitshares has bitUSD (much less volatile), 3 second tx times (which will go down as more users and volume require the witness pool to be expanded to more), is largely unlimited in scaling capability and has separations of power built into itself in its own governance model.
The only thing we sorely lack is amazing developers and people who realize we can love bitcoin and also use and test technologies that aid in the advancement of bitcoin and crypto as a whole.
