I'm wondering why PPS reward at Mt.Red is 2x that of other pools?  It seems the rate is calculated using the old BTC reward @ 50/block, instead of the new 25/block.  Even with transaction fees baked in I don't see how this can be 2x.  Is he giving out free money  Huh

I wanted to post in the Mt.Red thread but I guess newbs are caged in this section.

What makes you think MtRed's PPS calculation is incorrect?

Mt.Red : 0.0000167805
Others: 0.000008 (+/- Fees)

Using standard formula 25BTC / Difficulty yields 0.000008

I never used Mt.Red, but it's PPS,
so it might just be, that the difficulty of accepted shares on it is 2 while it is 1 on other pools.

At least that would explain the difference, you only get half the shares, but twice the reward.

Can you elaborate on that a little bit please?  I thought difficulty was a fixed constant that changed every (2 weeks?  not sure on the exact timespan).

From what I can tell I seem to be earning BTC at a 2x rate at Mt.Red.  Literally twice as much BTC per unit time.  I may be delusional but it looks like it...

A share on a pool is nothing else than a winning-hash on the real network, just with a lower difficulty (usually 1, but with more efficient/faster hardware, pools tend to raise the difficulty).

On a diff-1 pool and a network-diff of currently ~3mio, the pool needs about 3mio shares on average to find a block,
if the pool changes its difficulty from 1 to 2, it only needs about 1.5mio of those diff-2 shares to find a block and each of those diff-2 shares would earn twice the reward of a diff-1 share, nothing changes, except for the bandwidth usage.

Where did you get the information that MtRed's is 0.0000167805 PPS?

Their website, front page.  I've actually crosschecked with the # of shares I submitted to the pool and the payout, and it was indeed 0.0000167805.  As of now the website has removed that information from the front page. It WAS odd, he was paying double to everyone.

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:hTMbYhjyAKYJ:https://mtred.com/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

Here's a past google cache when difficulty was a little higher.  It's still 0.000014 ish.  I think Mt.Red's been paying double for a while.

EDIT:
The info is back up on Mt.Red now (still 0.000016).  Although I can't connect to their mining pool.

Ah that makes sense.  Thanks Smiley

Got an answer from their irc channel.  Apparently it's just a display error from hardcoded 50BTC values from the past.  Actual payout it ~0.000008 with no fees.
