China’s central bank plans to issue its own digital currency “as soon as possible,” according to Xinhua. The People’s Bank of China made the announcement at a conference on digital currency in Beijing.

According to Xinhua, in 2014 the PBOC set up a team to examine the possibility of establishing a digital currency and particularly to study experiences in China and abroad. Two years later, the team “has made progress on technology, legal issues, and the impact on financial systems,” Xinhua said.

Once again another nation state looking to release their own digital currency

The closer these states get I feel Bitcoin would have unfortunately served its purpose and  the stealth /anonymous coins will prevail

All modern currencies are "digital". There is nothing different about a "digital" currency.

This china digital currency could be very useful to traders on the big BTC exchanges for them to arb the high price of the Chinese exchanges. Then again this currency may have tight controls keeping it from leaving china at all so maybe it will be rendered useless in that regard.
