Question about antminer u3 PSU

On bitmain's post about his miner, they specify that the PSU need must have 12 V and 6A.

My question is:

Can i use it with a PSU that gives 4.5 A and 12 V?

maybe.  but not at full speed. or not at all I do not know what type of psu you refer to.



lets go slow.  the amp number 6  refers to 120 ac volt input   so 6 x 120 = 720 watts ac which in turn converts to about 55 amps dc 12 volts  now 55 x 12 = 660watts dc available.

Since an s-3 maxes at 450 watts maybe   this why they use those numbers.
   since 450 is way less then 660 you should be fine.


You ask about a 4.5 amp psu  in such a way I do not know if you are refering to a weak little wall wart that gives 4.5 amps dc.

On ebay there were a was at least one seller selling U3 power adapters.  It might be a little high compared to buying one without bragging run's a U3.  Also on forums there was some that sold wires that turn regular PSU's into having multiple adapters on it.

My biggest thing I would warn anyone who talks about U3's.  Is make sure you have something in mind for automation.  If not babysitting them becomes a pain and is not fun.

yap, it was actually burning but i changed the default values and  underclocked it a little bit and now it gives me like 40 gh instead of 60 but the psu is not hot!

ill search the limit

I would get a new power brick if one you are using was "burning".  It being hot is not a good thing at all, avoid this as much as possible.

It's like playing with fire if it's truly that hot.  Eventually your going to have a problem as they should not be "burning".

It was hot, but not that much

Just more hot than my laptop`s PSU but less than other ones that i have touched.

I don't think you read about these miners as much as you should have before buying .  Zombie is their nature it happens and is a pain and makes it where you have to babysit them.

Other option is automation best one I think is a R1 with CrazyGuy's custom firmware to restart it if there is a zombie.
