I am very happy that bitcoinexchange exists, but I also feel strongly that a much better market is needed for EUR (and Asian) currencies.  As another poster pointed out, bitcoin's largest current constituencies seem to be Americans and Russians, with a healthy dose of Europeans.

Nobody is from Japan except Satoshi, or at least as far as I know.

Is Satoshi from Japan?  I don't know that he has ever spoken of his background.  His English is excellent if so, which isn't so strange considering the degree of English education common in Japan.  However, even good speakers of English as a second language tend to have difficulty with some of the quirks of English.  Mostly because English is so free form, yet there is a normal way to say most things; while Japanese uses a ridgid grammar structure.  If I were to guess based solely on his use of language, I would say that he is either bilingual English or knows someone who ghostwrites on his behalf who is a native English speaker.  Also the fact that I've yet to see a Japanese version of Bitcoin's main webpage implies to myself that he is a native English speaker, and probably grew up in California.

Just an educated guess.

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

For what it's worth (not that I care), Satoshi's profile at Peer To Peer Foundation lists Japan as his country.

But he is making his forum posts between 16 and 24 GMT which with normal working hours would place him in western North America. Or, with slightly later working hours, in the middle of the Atlantic in a great underwater fortress filled with henchmen where he plots world domination while laughing maniacally.

Coming back to the original topic:

After I started a thread in the forexfactory.com forum, some people have jumped on board and have questions. I think it is a great opportunity to answer them and make the bitcoin idea more widespread.

Can someone help answering those questions?

Either
1) Please post the replies here and I will then copy them into the forexfactory forum   or
2) Please subscribe to the forum and then get active yourself.

Here are the questions/comments:

"Weird idea to generate coins, I try to understand their idea.
Somebody has to use our pc to generate coins. Who is that " somebody ".
And what about the privacy, can we trust that " somebody"?"

"To be successful they need absolutely a " Cyber army ""

Somebody is everybody. Or at least anyone that wants to. You can download the client and all the clients have the option of generating. Bitcoin is a decentralized system. Its one of its big points.

Tell them bitcoin is the bittorrent of currency.

Separate nodes contribute cpu power to secure the integrity of the bitcoin network and there is no central point of failure or need to trust anyone at all - you are your own bank .

SETI looks for aliens while bitcoin mines for coins.  Grin

That person thinks that "somebody" means "somebody else". You can explain it to them like this:

Quote
It is you who uses your PC to generate coins, so you don't need to trust anyone else for this. However, it might take months before your PC generates a bundle of coins, so you may prefer to trade goods for bitcoins, or buy bitcoins from someone who already has some.

Also, if you just want to experiment, you can get 0.05 bitcoins absolutely free from people who are giving them away at the Bitcoin Faucet.
