You think your idea was worth something? I've seen a lot of folks here who think their ideas are worth something and get quite vehement at any suggestion of giving their ideas away for free. Well here's some bad news from the real world, practically all of those ideas are worth sweet FA, nada, not a god damn thing and if you don't believe that then just try selling them. It doesn't take long, just call up a few companies it could be useful to and try and arrange an appointment to present it to them and 9 times out of 10 they will laugh at you. Dig a little deeper and you'll find most industries are flooded with great ideas and they can get more anytime for little or nothing.
So why aren't they using them? Because some bastard with a patent portfolio will jump out of the bushes and ambush them if they make anything out of it claiming that idea is theirs and they're owed money for it. Patents have nothing to do with encouraging innovation, quite the opposite in fact. If you want to innovate you must join the patent club and if you can afford the membership then for your money you get.... nothing. Oops, my bad, you get the right to try and defend yourself in any battle over ownership of an idea, in other words you get to play the "who has the most money to pay the lawyers" game.
Even if an idea is both genuinely innovative and safe from the patent trolls its still missing the vital ingredient that makes it worth something, it needs to exist. Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door, design a better mousetrap and tell the world it must pay to see what you've designed and the world will just ignore you and keep using the old mousetraps.
Sorry for the rant, I have piles of good ideas here that just add to the mountains of unused ideas that never see the light of day and there are some real gems in those troll infested mountains. Some really nice work in the OP, there are some really talented folks in the world and the places that have nothing and have to make what they can from it seem to get more of them.
Great post! I do hope that you knew that the OP was in jest, albeit I have envisioned such an orchestra/ensemble a couple/three years ago, but have yet to do anything with it with the exception of maintaining a viable domain name. Also, my idea would not have the instruments look so crude, coupled with the musicians have to build their own instruments with their own hands, as well as being able to play proficiently.
