I must say that I am very disappointed with the service of Mt. Gox.
On the 20th Dec I transferred first ever funds to Mt Gox. A small amount well under the verification limit.
When my funds had not appeared 3 days later I questioned via support. They said that the money has been caught up for AML review. Well it’s now New Year’s eve and still no funds. Mt. Gox are not responding to my requests for updates apart from telling me that now that it’s the Xmas period to expect plenty of disruption. I know its Xmas but the bitcoin world continues to whirl and Mt Gox should have a better support over the holiday period. Mt Gox should have made it clearer on their web page that they were effectively abandoning support during the Xmas New Year period.
So to get my bitcoins I joined Bitcoin central and even over this period they verified my account, accepted a fund transfer allowing me to do my trading within 3 days. Mt Gox should learn a bit more about customer support.

MtGox is fine with BTC instant transactions below limit.
But I wouldn't ever suggest even try fiat money transfers in/out. Just nightmare. )

A small amount well under the verification limit.

That doesn't mean they won't ask for AML documentation for "suspicious activity"

Quote
Mt. Gox will request identification information (such as an identity card, invoices, Government issued photographic identification, utility bill, residential certificate, signed certification of cohabitation, or similar, banking information) depending on the amounts deposited on the Accounts or the presence of suspicious activity which may indicate money-laundering or other illegal activity.

They said that the money has been caught up for AML review.

It is a manual process, and they are "limited" for the holidays:

From December 24th to January 7th, Mt.Gox will work in limited capacity

Mt Gox should have a better support over the holiday period.

Unfortunately they have a few regulations they have to go through, it definitely sucks and can be very slow

Tips are always appreciated 1Gr1MZuqpSZJbApsgpMnHFhKHkXUdHqYRe

Sorry to hear about peeps having issues with Mt Gox. Personally, they haven't shafted me and they've actually been okay, even before I had my account verified. But then, I've never attempted to draw fiat out, just fiat/BTC in, and only BTC out. YMMV.
