Two fan headers on the same machine just burned out. Now it has no fans  Huh

Machine #1: Antminer S3 (Now has 2 burnt fan headers - has ethernet)
Machine #2: Antminer S3 (Works okay - has wifi)
PSU: Corsair RM750

The PSU was powering both S3 machines but both underclocked, one at 193Mhz the other around 150Mhz.

The burnout occurred after adding a wifi antenna and pigtail to the S3.

What would cause this? Too much load on the PSU?

The antenna was only partially attached to the case. Could it be caused by the antenna not securely bolted to the machine?

At the same time that Machine 1 fan headers burned out Machine 2 had just added a fan splitter and second fan because upon purchasing the Machine 2 one of the fan headers was already burnt out. Fan splitter for Machine 2 is: StarTech.com 12-Inch 4 Pin Fan Power Splitter Cable - F/M (FAN4SPLIT12)

Getting worried I removed the fan splitter and second fan from Machine 2. Is it okay to add it back?

For Machine 1: Any ideas for getting fans to this? Maybe a fan controller--recommendations?

I would not run it with no fan's personally.  You should be able to get fan's to use molex and I think you should have that with PSU, but you lose function of turning up and don on fan's.

Fan controller you retain ability to turn fan's up and down.   I think that is as good as it get's with burning them out.

I'm not sure on antenna causing have not heard of it before. Does it touch any parts on boards with metal on wifi adapter?  I would take it off if damage started after it.   But that is best guess I have is if the metal on wifi pigtail hit board on wrong spot.

Overloaded the header.  Do not get a fan controller.

Do you have a four pin wire that comes out of the psu?

Wifi is attached at spot where the fan cable comes through the case. After the first header burnt out I attached it more securely to the same spot. But the second header burned out on the next run anyway.

There were only two stock fans when it occurred, one on either header. Going to hook something up to the PSU, for sure. It only has 4-pin molex so it will have to be an adapter...

You have overloaded header. If you want two fans from one header do it like this:

Why attach 2 fans to one header when there are 2 headers available ?

It seems you ran 2x the current thru one header then its recommended

So you would be okay with running the continuing to run the machine, as long as a few 120mmx80mm auxiliary fans are running on an external fan controller? Will the plastic in the area near the burned out fan headers smolder? Whatever burned out looks like three to five tightly packed resistors. The machine needs to run in a living space.

They are ferrite beads. They worked like fuses in this case. Replace those and I'm pretty sure that fans work again. Just don't overload circuits anymore. Seen a lot of burn't ferrite beads on overclocked gridseeds.
