5970 Black Edition VERY HOT

So I set up my rig yesterday, set everything up and started mining right away.
one thing i immediately noticed in the ati afterburner tool, was that my GPU temperature is very high, atm i run the card with

cpu clock: 875 mhz
memclock: 1300 mhz

and the temperature after 10 hours of straight mining is at a constant 93 degrees celsius, but even without overclocking the temperature is at 88 degrees celsius.

my question: is that too hot, i mean 88 degrees withou OC sound high to me.

side note: atm i'm pulling 828 megahashes, thats more than the hardware comparison told me.

Many of these cards benefit from downclocking the memory speed.  This helps reduced the total heat produced by the card, and for reasons I don't technically understand, this can positively effect hashrate.  When I downclocked the memory on my ati 5830 XOC's to 300, and later 200, I noticed a useful temperature drop, and a slight increase in hashing speed.

I have never had increased hashrate from downclocking, but the heat is lower and that is what you need.  You do not want to kill your cards VRM (and therefore in essence you whole card).  I also use MSI afterburner to lower the voltage which makes a big difference in the heat as well.

but wouldn`t lowering the voltage also lower the hashes, cuz that is not what i want, cuz mining is of course still profitable but with energy prices THAT high, i mean i dont know what you pay in the US or elsewhere but here in germany energy prices are SERIOUS business....

Lowering voltage means you can't overclock core clock as high, but it also affects power usage squared, instead of core clock which just does proportionally.

But I'd start with adding more (or more powerful) fans and lowering memory to 300.
