EU has open debate about BTC.
What do you expect as a result?

I hope there will be no regulation on Bitcoin and crypto currencies in general. Regulation means more taxes being imposed on us.

I think their might be a slight change by their announcement next month but I doubt it will be something that affects majority of users in Europe (hopefully) plus they seem a lot more reasonable into coming into a conclusion so it could still go either way.

Even if regulation could bring us a lot more respect and consideration, this is indeed that taxes will follow it Undecided... So a regulation may not be a good thing.

Sooner or later we will see some regulation.Question is how much they will try to regulate it.If they do too much, like in New York, the innovative companies will look for new residences. The UK is way ahead and knows this I would say. They want to be a fintech hub, crypto currencies and Blockchain included.I doubt we will see another red flag act.So don't worry too much.

I certainly hope that they do not take New York as an example, but I think this might all be fairly positive in general for Bitcoin to see it being accepted as a currency.
Looking forward to hearing the outcome if this.

the more popular bitcoin gets, the heavier their policy towards bitcoin will be. i think it's just a matter of time before we see some strict rules that will make it harder to freely purchase bitcoin from exchanges as their bank accounts are under heavy pressure already. there are banks already telling them to move their funds away from that bank as their account will get closed. it's pure madness.

I really hope that they don't because that will make the price of Bitcoin fall rapidly.

I don't think so. I it become popular enough, they will want their slice of the pie. Taxes will fall on us, mainly when you'll buy bitcoins from exchanges, but hopefully, when it will happen, I will have enough bitcoins Cool !

they said that they are only monitoring the situation, they ar enot regulating it yet

yes, but how much longer will they continue "ignoring" it? we can be 100% sure that when the times comes, they will try to... what will happen?, in the end, people who already used it have lot of power, so its depends about what will do people who are using it Wink ( at least i like to think so xD )

IMHO #1.b of suspects, Hal Finney is/was S.N.

i remember that they said that bitcoin is too small for a regulation at the moment, i think they are waiting for major adoption, before moving their ass on this

Whatever we want for bitcoin, he must be regulated and monitored somehow by authorities and everything is good till there is cooperation. The Last thing we are expecting and hoping not to happen is banning of BTC by authorities wherever they are in the world. Wink

The EU likes the regulate and ban things.
So yes, I expect some changes and it will be harder to sell and buy Bitcoin officially in the EU.
Question is how they catch deals outside of the EU, for example if you deal BTC at Bter.com for example. Will be very difficult for them to track and avoid this.

The EU not only debate about Bitcoin but for virtual currencies in common. I think and hope that they will find a liberal regulation. This would bring more attention to crypto currencies and Bitcoin. Further, it would be easier for merchants which are interested in Bitcoin - but fear about legal issues - to integrate crypto currencies as a payment option.

At some point they will TRY to regulate it once it grows... not an easy job though.
