Participation in the Pigeon-Talk forums implies agreement with the following:

1. Pigeon Talk forums offer support, empowerment, education and entertainment to pigeon enthusiasts in every aspect of this fancy. Since each user is responsible for their own posts, please use discretion when weighing the value of information found in these forums.

2. This is a pigeon advocate thread. Topics relating to the advocacy of hunting, killing, eating, torturing or any cruel treatment of pigeons and/or any animal, will not be tolerated on this website. While we encourage an exchange of opinions in these forums, please note that there are specific 'Off Limit' topics that are PROHIBITED and any such posts will be be immediately removed without discussion. Off Limit topics include:

Lethal means of control - Our discussions encourage 'humane habitat modifications'. We reject all discussions about 'lethal' means of control.
Lethal culling. We advocate only 'responsible culling' of unwanted pigeons or doves. 'Responsible culling' is defined as: Taking the responsibility for finding proper homes for your unwanted pigeons. Please do not try to give us your 'justifications' for 'lethal culling', we have heard it all. If you hold an opinion about your 'right' to 'lethal culling' of unwanted pigeons and/or any animal, please keep it to yourself. Please just go away.
Surgical Procedures. Invasive procedures on any animal should ONLY be performed by a licensed/qualified veterinary doctor. If you have an emergency situation please contact a professional for advice and treatment. There are many resources on Pigeon-Life that can help you locate professional care. Just because you may find a procedure posted on the WEB that doesn't mean it is valid or humane.
Cruelty or torture of any animals.

3. We require civil and ethical conduct on all forums. Personal attacks on other members, or pigeons.biz itself or its moderators and administrators, will not be tolerated. If asked, you will yield to the requests of the forum moderators and administrators.

Putin supposedly said:
Negotiating with Obama is like playing chess with a pigeon. The pigeon knocks over all the pieces, shits on the board and then struts around like it won the game.

Does this go here?

Funny -- I read your username as "Birdcorn" for a second there. So there's a forum out there to discuss pigeon rights. That's amusing.

From the Founder of Pigeon Talk:

Hello, and welcome to Pigeon-Talk - A place for pigeon lovers.

Here, you will learn about one of nature’s most beautiful and loveable creatures, the wondrous pigeon, and others, like yourself, who have come to this hobby by way of their interest and love for this bird.

There are many bird species in this world. Why do so many people come to prize and enjoy the pigeon? What is it about the pigeon that is so attractive.
Do they talk (like parrots) in our language? No.
Do they perform fancy tricks? No.
Do they perform some sort of work to make our lives easier? No.
Then what is it? It's something that cannot be put into words exactly. It must be experienced.

Living with pigeons in my life makes for a richer experience in my daily living.

Our hope is that you will find this to be true in your life too.

Carl Gulledge (bigbird)

I knew a guy who walked around with cockatiels on his shoulders. Oooo! The stains on his shirts. The pigeons stayed on the floor because they were to big for his shoulders, luckily.

What was really funny, however, was when his girlfriend was walking barefoot around the house.

Why do pigeons bob their heads?

The pigeon has side-mounted eyes, unlike humans and owls which have forward facing eyes. As pigeons have monocular vision rather than binocular vision they bob their heads for depth of perception. The pigeon’s eyes function much better with stationary images and therefore as the pigeon takes a step forward the head is temporarily left behind. The next step jerks the head forward again and so on. This allows the bird to correctly orient itself.

There was actually a scientific study which put chickens on treadmills.

When they walked on the treadmills their environment did not move with each step, so they did not bob their heads.

It's exactly the same principle you were just talking about.  The point is that pigeons on treadmills wouldn't bob their heads either.

I like to watch birds - such as pigeons - and notice how much faster their movements are compared to us.

People think pigeons move their heads with jerky stop-and-start motions, but to the bird it's probably just casually turning its head and looking around.

We live longer, but our lives move much more slowly (compared to a small animal such as a pigeon).  So maybe we have the same length of lifespan, adjusted for speed.

The tortoises live for 200 years on the Galapagos islands (which are the home to 3 species of pigeon).  The tortoise seems much slower than us - and slower than a pigeon - but its slower metabolism lets it live longer.

If you can find a video of a pigeon on a treadmill I'll arrange some kind of reward system. Maybe we can premine PigeonTalkCoin.
