Keiser Report: Hierarchy of Fraud (E388)

Host Max Keiser talks to John Perry Barlow, founding member of the EFF and board member of the Freedom of the Press Foundation

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcV7nQtEXnA&feature=youtu.be

...
In the second half of the show, Max Keiser talks to 'the Thomas Jefferson of the internet,' John Perry Barlow about his new website, pressfreedomfoundation.org, started with John Cusack and Daniel Ellsberg and dedicated to circumventing financial blockades and, thus, enabling donations to such groups as WikiLeaks and others dedicated to transparency and journalism.
...

Bitcoin first mentioned at around 21:40
Quote
John Barlow:
We will accept donations in bitcoin...
Personally I think Bitcoin's got a ways to go before I consider it to be a reliable and fungible currency.
I think that it's somewhat subject to manipulation.. but it is actually reaching a point where I think it's an increasingly reliable currency,
but you know a really reliable currency has to be credible in all venues.
You can't just have this sort of... Unix weenies thinking that Bitcoin is good.. you gotta have the people down at the grocery store thinking it's good - and we're a long ways away from that.

In light of how Bitcoin acceptance is a great litmus test for liberty proponents, it is pretty funny to watch Max cross examine Barlow at 25:40 and Barlow's pathetic response!

I have watched the Keiser Report but it started sending me mental.
Thinking that the reality that I was educated on and brought up in turns out to be just a fairy tale version of reality.
Max keiser wants to watch out or he might get assassinated by the man if he gets too popular.

Though do main stream economists take him seriously?
Some stuff is over my head but if you watch enough and put it into context with the financial happenings reported elsewhere it makes you think WTF.

John Perry Barlow was completely pathetic. I don't know what kind of inspirational work he's done in the past to deserve his title of "The Thomas Jefferson of the Internet" but he's completely lost the plot with his outright rejection of Bitcoin. The guy seriously sucked. He couldn't even explain how Press Freedom Foundation made the donations anonymous. I presume the donations aren't anonymous, just the different percentages that you give to each organisation. And what happens when the Press Freedom Foundation account gets frozen because of their association with Wiki Leaks. Jesus Wept. The guy sounded like such a tool when he said, "we've raised X amount of real dollars, not bitcoins!". And calling Bitcoin users UNIX weenies.....arghhhh  Angry

I'm so angry right now. I expected so much more from a libertarian intellectual.

Hmm,

a) In John Barlow's defence, he mostly just sounded conservative. Just like I no longer watch the prices and specs of the latest computer gear unless my old stuff breaks, and I don't care about MP3 players (Wow! Ipods with 20GB 2" hard drives Roll Eyes ) or Iphone 5 or Windows 8, it seems understandable that despite Bitcoin's awesomeness most people just won't pay attention until reality catches up with them.

b) he's probably a bit scared of retaliation if he openly promotes Bitcoin too much.

c) Duh, he saw Bitcoin as competition to his product. Well done to Max and Stacy for helping him to regain his honesty!
