After all, a domain name is a virtual house. You would think that they wouldn't have any problem with the concept of paying for it with a virtual currency.

It could be many reasons (I used to pay with BTCitcoin for all of my domain purchases so far as well):
1. Easy and fast transaction that results in fast delivery of the domain to the person who purchased it.
2. Some put false information and just use BTCitcoin so their real identities remain hidden.
3. It's available to everyone unlike other online payments which have some restriction on who uses their services.

I highly recommend lovingdomains they accept three crypto currencies bitcoin litecoin and dogecoin, have purchased 5 domains here using crypto currencies, they are not as popular like the three domain registrar but they offer top notch service ans sometimes they offer  bonus like domain anonymity, go for them and register your preferred domain..

Namecheap accepts Bitcoin for domains, just like many sellers around here.

Domain websites are reluctant to use Bitcoin for the same reason everyone else is: they do not understand it properly or don't care.

I tried there, too much hassle, and they need too much info.

And after sawing their TOS, that creeped me out, they dont allow bitcoin marketing sites and faucets and things like that. So it's not my choice.

Currently, I've got someone trying to buy one of my domain names, and I've asked 5 Bitcoin for it. He's running it though an agency, and they only deal in dollars, but they do allow private deals. I live in hope that the guy will save a few dollars by paying in Bitcoin. Smiley

Unless you  use a proxy service, then you need to put your details in the domain name registration.

Gandi.net also accepts payments via BTC but I don't understand how you can say few people use BTC to pay for their domain names. Do you have any data from a registrar showing how many customers use BTC versus credit cards, or paypal? I wish you could provide us with some info.

Well there are payment portals like Bitpay which can convert your bitcoins into cash deposited directly into their bank accounts but my guess is they just don't want to bother.

All you guys are talking about domain name registrations. I was talking about selling domain names that are already registered by you.

No it's not, cherrypicking what sites you allow and not are just censorship, which is inherently bad.

Sorry, I should have been more specific.

This is just a adoption issue and a lot of negative press. You should suggest to them to use a payment processor like Bitpay, if they want fiat in return. Most people are simply lazy and/or scared of the unknown. <Learning something new> Why not just accept the fiat and buy your own bitcoins?

If you want to do it anonymously with BTC, you are barking up the wrong tree. Bitcoin in the hands of newbies are not anonymous.

It can't be anonymous. It's going through an agent and an escrow company. I've also been with the registrar for about 15 years, and my details are public. Smiley

Sadly the guy won't pay in Sterling or Bitcoin, so I'll have to accept dollars. Then I have to decide when to sell those dollars. The dollar is creeping up atm, but I think it's going to drop later this year, and Bitcoin will rise.

It could jsut be because of the reputation. Sometimes it's be ause Bitcoin is slowly becoming less safe in terms of protecting anonymity. I'm not sure how to feel about the situation as everyone has a right to use something, and they have the right to not use something.
