That's not how it works. Races are to be considered as big categories. Each and everyone has traits from all categories, but one category is normally dominant. Which will be the case for the child.

But races are totally arbitrary of course, and the more times goes by, the more races mix together.

So arbitrary categories based on some dominant trait that may or not be shared by all family members which are defined by some arbitrary people.
