Hello,
I am new with bitcoin. I have downloaded a bitcoin qt wallet.
I ordered bitcoins at bit4coin and they sended them to my wallet.
But my wallet does not refresh because it is synchronising with my network. And it says that my last received block was 2 years and 30 weeks ago. It really slowly counts down but like 1 week in 15 minutes.
Do I need to wait till it has counted down to 0 year and 0 weeks? Or is there something wrong?
I cannot install another wallet because then I lose my 25 euro's on bitcoins...
Kind regarts.

Oh, you are still a long way to go, what i believe you are doing right now is, that your are downloading the whole blockchain to your hd...the whole blockchain is like 75GB size or smth. Just wait. |

Oh, you are still a long way to go, what i believe you are doing right now is, that your are downloading the whole blockchain to your hd...the whole blockchain is like 75GB size or smth. Just wait. Yes. I did the same a few weeks ago. It took several days before everything was downloaded. And the more you come to the last blocks, the slower it goes. You will have lots of patience. The coins you got now, do only appear when you come at that date. You will have to wait. You cannot see it right now. |

It should keep progress if you shutdown. You have to download it once and keep up to date with smaller downloads once you get current. It just is a sizable download if your downloading entire chain at this point. So it can take day's depending on speed. Core is a good wallet, but you will understand why some lightweight wallets are nice after having to download. |

if you shutdown your pc it will resume when you start it again it was better if you have have used light version wallets like electrum or multibit,using those doesn't needs you to download big blockchain. |

Yes, as others wrote the progress is saved. I would just add to check if your Bitcoin Core process has really closed before you shut down the PC (Task Manager if you're on Windows). |

If you prefer not to wait for the entire blockchain to synchronize, or if you don't have enough disk space to store the entire blockchain, then you can choose a different wallet.
You can export the private key for the bitcoin address from the current wallet and then you can import it into the new wallet so that you still have access to all the bitcoins from the new wallet.
If decide to do that and need someone to explain how, just let us know.

I would just add to check if your Bitcoin Core process has really closed before you shut down the PC (Task Manager if you're on Windows).
I think this is a really important point. Make sure you exit, and the rectangular closing window has gone completely. Also if you decide to make backups to a removable medium, USB stick for example, make sure you eject it before you remove it. I downloaded the entire blockchain over public WiFi, and it took about 3 weeks I think. That involved numerous shut-downs, and I didn't have any problems. I was using core 0.11.2 and it seems to be pretty robust. |

75GB size of blockchain is much more than i can download i think in some country you need more than two month to download this data, so preferred to use secure online wallet for fast service with enabling 2FA .

You need to wait for download all bitcoin transaction.
Depend on your internet connection time for a full syncronisation.
You can use a light wallet like multibit or a online wallet for fast sync.
