I am using Windows XP and Armory v0.92.3.

When I start Armory I receive a message to say Armory version 93.3 is now available.

However the Secure Downloader (on announcement tab) only shows v0.92.3 which is the same version I am using.

On the same tab, the "All Available Notifications" links to the Armory website page, "https://bitcoinarmory.com/download/#windows", where it states under Armory Installers,

   "Download 0.93.2 for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8+ (32- and 64-bit)".

After downloading "armory_0.93.2_winAll.exe" and attempting an install I receive a message to say,

"You cannot install this version on a 32-bit system"

This contradicts the information on the webpage info above which states the download is for XP 32-bit.

Any ideas how to update Armory to v0.93.2 on Windows XP ?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Everything you're experiencing is to be expected; the error message is entirely correct, you can't install 93.2 on 32-bit machines. goatpig (one of the main developers for Armory) has stated in the past that maintaining XP compatibility and 32-bit compatibility (separate tasks) is not feasible for various reasons, but I can't remember the exact details.

It's possible that either 32 bit or XP might make a comeback in future versions, but I'd be very surprised if both options became available (it's unlikely to be a small amount of work, and not for much overall gain). On balance, I would think about getting a replacement machine with a 64 bit CPU as a solution. Your current XP machine could still be used for cold storage tx signing (92.3 is sufficiently forward compatible that it can be used together with version 93.x +)

No it's not to be expected, as the website download page omits this crucial information.

If the program no longer supports Windows XP, they are excluding over 10% of users... Windows XP has 10.4% of market share of operating systems (Windows 10 has 11.8%), and 99% of Windows XP systems are 32-bit.

If v0.92.3 can support windows XP 32-bit, what's the big issue with continuing support in v0.93.2 !

There are 2 complications:

1) Armory's C++ code is written with a lot of C++11. There essentially are no compilers you can install on WinXP that can build C++11 code. Microsoft has also dropped support for WinXP a few years ago. The only path through that is the pseudo cross compiler they provided with MSVC 2013, which so far has demonstrated itself as wacky (at best).

2) Assuming the x-compiler works, I still have to reintroduce the DB changes in 0.94 for Armory to run on anything x86.

I have a windows XP 32bit laptop I would like to use for cold storage but I can't find the old 0.92.3 installer, just the source code on github. You wouldn't still have it would you? I'm out of options other than buy a new laptop for cold storage which is a waist really or compile it myself which I have no idea how to.
